I know people are enamoured with Flip or Furphy’s archetype but they’re more of a project than Mogbo is.

He rebounds significantly better than those 2, he defends significantly better than those 2, he passes significantly better than those 2, he screens significantly better than those 2 and he’s also significantly more athletic than those 2.

I think he can carve out minutes for himself pretty quickly.

Furphy and Flip aren't projects. They have positions and portability, and will just have to go through the development arc of adding strength. Mogbo is a project in the sense that he doesn't have a clear NBA position (Bobby is already calling him a wing), he's undersized to be a C (low body mass, short), he's not a threat to score off the bounce much outside of transition. He's a guy that you can shift up and down the line-up, but you have to consider who he's out there with more than those other two you mentioned.

Also, this team is trying to stink next year and no one needs to carve out minutes.

Flip is an undersized 5 at the NBA level who thinks he’s a 3/4. He was a terrible defender at Duke. His shooting ability is vastly overrated as well. Furphy cannot defend his position at all.

There’s a reason why they both fell hard from the first round, they’re projects.

He had a 4.5dbpm, only big that had a higher one drafted ahead of him was Clingan. I don't think he'll be a good defender in the NBA, but terrible is a stretch.

Furphy had a higher DBPM than Williams, Carrington, McCain, Walter, Ware, Missi, Collier, George, Dillingham, Tyson, Shannon, Da Silva. He will never be able to guard his position, but he'll probably be able to make enough defensive plays to stay on the floor. He's a shooter and they aren't required do tough defensive work. Maybe the top 10% of shooters can handle a defensive responsibility. It's been like that forever.

Sorry, why wouldn't Furphy be able to guard his position?

Few NBA players can in this NBA, and for shooters it's pretty much Klay.

That's quite the standard... All defensive caliber Klay.

Can Nic Batum guard his position?

Here are 4 Jayhawks and their 3pt% in college

Mykhailiuk .409
Agbaji .373
Gradey .403
Furphy .352

I am not sure Furphy’s shooting percentage can translate in NBA level. However, if it doesn’t translate, he got nothing else, similar to Svi and Wieskamp. Whereas Mogbo has many skills that can build on to be a rotation player even if he can’t shoot the 3 consistently.

Jamal Shead is sick athlete strong core(shuttle) and fast as a bullet, just as good of not a better athlete than Devin Carter who draft pundits view as the best overall athlete in the draft

Thanks for sharing this, excellent video references to the Magic running 4.5 instead of 5-out and how Mogbo can exploit defenses given his combination of passing and athleticism. Gonna keep an eye out for this with the Raps this year.

He's definitely a 4, maybe defensively he can guard 3s. If we wanna give him PT with Barnes's he should be a small ball 5

Mogbo 7th was too rich for me. That type of ranking means you're expecting a solid shot at him becoming Draymond. He's pretty unique though and I'm always down for 1 of 1 type of players. No matter what he turns out to be he's likely going to return much more than what an average 31st pick returns.

Put it this way, as a guy with college productivity and a +7 wingspan taken around there you have Taj Gibson in 2009 but Mogbo is significantly younger and more productive as a draftee. There are good signs Mogbo's career VORP could be 6+ which would give him the value of a late lottery pick.

Can't wait to see lineups with Barnes/Mogbo as the bigs with shooters/cutters around them.

I think in the future he projects as a guy that can defend most positions but play the 4 offensively. Offensively, hopefully he can contribute in a lot of ways that Thaddeus young did early in his tenure, namely putting him in spots to attack defender or facilitate and hopefully can develop his shot to be at least similar to thads; I mean hopefully better, but thad shot it well enough… kind of. Something’s better than nothing lol.
