Milwaukee/Orlando

Post#1 » by JMAC3 » Mon Jul 1, 2024 11:43 am

Milwaukee sends Brook Lopez to Orlando for Wendell Carter Jr.

Orlando has the cap space to eat the difference, they get better in the short term. Lopez money falls off books next year once they have to extend Suggs, Franz.

Milwaukee accomplishes a lot here. They get younger, they save a bunch of money and get close to getting the under the tax. This moves gets them away from the 2nd apron and they then can use the MLE

I'm thinking ORL's window is a little bigger than MIL...seems counterintuitive for ORL to be in a rush and MIL to be playing it cool

Orlando just gave 22 million to KCP
About to give out extensions to Franz and Suggs that will probably be around 75 million per year
You have to pay Paolo soon, maybe they want to extend JI.

Them diving in and giving out another 3-4 year deal with their 30 million in cap space could be fine or it could really put them in a bind in the near future.

Have you ever seen KCP play? He's a career 39% 3P shooter on 5.3 attempts, above 40% in three of his past four seasons from deep. Also, Brook is roughly as good as WJC from deep on far more attempts. KCP/Lopez together would provide amazing spacing.

Carter's health concerns me but he would be a great fit with Giannis, and the cap flexibility this provides is valuable. I would probably do it.

I feel like Orlando would much rather hold onto WCJ and keep him extended at a reasonable rate rather than deal with a hole at C in the future

pass on this. Lopez is too old for this Magic core. Would rather keep WCJ, he's 25 years old and still improving.

I literally wasn't arguing any of that. Just speaking to the shooting of Lopez and your defense-only view of KCP.

Ya'll throwing the Magic a 1st round pick or something? Why the hell would we want his old ass. Doesn't make any sense at all.

We may find out soon, as the Magic are working on an extension for him. But on this board, his value has always been higher to the Magic (fans) than to other teams (and fans).

Magic fan here. Love this trade idea. Send it in to the commissioner's office!
