Tanev signing - B+
OEL signing - C+
Stolarz signing - A

New look defense:
Rielly-Tanev
Benoit-McCabe
Ekman-Larsson-Liljegren

Solid - better than last year for sure.
I thought Lybushkin was solid though.
That 3rd pairing (OEL-Lilly) kind of looks soft right now.

Now let's trade Marner and bring home Kadri.

This team could definitely use Kadri, flippin Dubas, smh

Today marks the 5 year anniversary of that horrendous trade.

My ideal scenario would be Marner to Vegas (replacing Marchessault) but not for Shea Theodore (Leafs already have Reilly making too much money with a NMC). Would like to see coming back:
Barbashev: 28 yr, $5 million until 2028, top 6)
Roy: 27 yrs, $3 million until 2027, C with size (6'4)
Hague: 25 yrs, 2.2 million until 2025 RFA, D with size 6'6 - good second pairing
And if they could squeeze one more piece from their minor league system:
Korczak: 23yr RHD, 6'3, RFA this year

I know there are no superstars but this balances out the depth with younger players on good value contracts.
No way it will happen...just like a Bruce Brown trade :O

Their issue is scoring. Their players don't know how to score in the playoffs, and their special teams always sucks. They let their best playoff style player in Hyman go for nothing and traded the other one Kadri for scrap.

Tanev is signed till he's 40 with a full no movement clause. Brutal.

Can anyone TLDR the Leafs off-season? Has the Boston Pizza owner's son done done well as GM?

Not good
Domi 4 x $3.75
Woll 3 x $3.55
Tanev 6 x $4.5
Stolarz 2 x $2.5
Oliver Ekman-Larsson 4 x 3.5
Timothy Liljegren 2 x $3

Another first round exit coming.

Though here is my prediction - Marner to Vegas coming soon!! :D

nah that looks pretty good to me.

I'm down for trading Marner to Vegas who are probably going to get a star to replace Marchessault with their big game hunting history.

Has anyone been following the playoffs? Been an exciting series with the Panthers. Excited for game 4.

Keeping a close eye on the Jets and Oilers as well. Would love to see a Canadian team in the Cup.

I'm very impressed by how tough the team has been so far.

Playoff hockey is just great to watch in general.

Go Leafs!

he looked a bit better in the 3rd period but yeah, def not as solid as Stolarz was. Never really expected them to win this series anyway, so a win is just a bonus at this point. At least its been competitive.

Florida is just so stacked and they go through 5 to 10 minute stretches where they completely dominate the game and the opposition can't clear the puck without icing it.

Ironically....the most even game in terms of puck possession was game 3 and the leafs lost that one. This series could easily be 3 - 0 panthers if Bobrosky didn't have the worst series of his life. He has been truly brutal. So nice to finally be on the other side of a struggling goalie.

In hockey, the best team doesn't always win. But that said....the leafs really needed that OT win in game 3. They might not get another shot like that to win a game the entire series. I could definitely see the panthers winning 4 straight now.

We might still have a shot if stolarz can return. He was playing well....and one of the huge differences is his ability to retrieve and handle pucks, make the right pass that deadens the florida cycle before it starts.

Florida might have the best cycle I've ever seen. But they ARE vulnerable on the counter-attack. That seems to be the story of the series so far: Florida dominates offensive zone time, the leafs get rushes on the counter-attack, and Bobrosky is giving up 2 or more questionable goals per game.

The problem is ....it's usually only a matter of time that the team who tilts the ice in offensive zone possession wins. When the panthers are down a goal....the leafs are holding on for dear life and icing the puck repeatedly. When the leafs are down a goal....the play is basically even. The leafs don't have the ability to put on a 5 to 10 minute dominating push when they need it.

Do have to admit that the leafs are much better than in previous years. Tanev is the kind of defensemen they never had during the Matthew's era. When he gets the puck in one of the defensive corners....you feel confidant that he will make the right play to clear it. Feels like this team would have a solid chance to make it to the finals if they didn't have to face florida.

It's possible florida wins 3 or 4 cups in a row if they can keep this group together. Most stacked hockey team I've seen in a LONG time.

I think they have 9 players who played in the 4 nations cup smh. And that doesnt include Bobrovsky who is probably top 3 goalie in the league. Or Seth Jones who was barely left off the American roster. And 7 of those 9 are rugged style star players (the type that thrive in playoffs). The leafs have 3. And 2 of those 3 are finesse stars. That's how stacked the panthers are. There'd be no shame in losing to them.

Half their team will play in the Olympics next year lol.

**** Miami. We would have swept this series if they didn't take out Stolarz with that dirty play in game 1. We need to score like 5 goals a game to win with Woll in net. They knew what they were doing.

This is the first year the Leafs haven't choked in the playoffs, and we're going to get knocked out because of a **** injury.

This year under the coach the team is playing a lot better with the toughness and the forechecking yet they still end up blowing leads and can't finish a series in dominant fashion. You step away for a few minutes and the lead is gone.

They should take this one tonight and hopefully finish off the series on Tuesday. Gotta close it out
