And then where would he be with even just a season-ending injury going into his 33rd year--and expecting a sizable new, long-term contract?

The dude was smart to take what he could in a situation and location he and his family want to be in. Even if he missed out big, he and his family wouldn't be much better off with another $100m.

PS His agent might not have minded his immediate share rather than risking that for another year.
