It’s literally the exact same team as last year which was decidedly not good enough offensively + KCP who is a low usage player on that end.

Hard to say they’ve really done enough personnel wise on that end of the floor.

They are basically forced to hope Cole has a significant bounce back season or else they have virtually zero juice off the bounce in the backcourt at all.

I like Gary but the roster construction makes no sense yet again. We have now 5? SG + AB who is maybe a SG too and Franz who played a lot SG too but not even a 3rd string PG?

As of today, this is the current depth chart.

Suggs/Anthony/Black
Caldwell-Pope/Harris/Howard
F-Wagner/Houstan/da Silva
Banchero/Isaac
Carter/Bitadze

Two thoughts;

1) the Magic is actually not at the salary floor yet, but even a vet-min contract take the Magic to it. To get to the 141 cap, the Magic has about 13M to spend. So: expect Orlando to sign M-Wagner for more than the room deal, say three-years 35M. And then to use a LLE exemption on Mr #15, who really needs to be a vet PF.

2) If you would have told me that Black and Howard would both be 3rd stringers in the sophomore years, I would have thought you were trolling.

What do you mean we have KCP, Suggs, Black, Jett, Harris, likely Ingles coming back too all shooters really to space the floor for Paolo so he can eat. Teams wont be packing the paint on us anymore

You think de silva is third string? I hope not. Why draft a guy who's supposed to be nba ready to just bury him at the end of the bench. He's 23.

It is 50/50 if Houstan, a third-year player that is a horrible defender will get backup minutes over a rookie, who will also be horrible. In the end, I expect Black gets these SF minutes though. Neither Houstan nor da Silva should see any court time outside of scrub minutes, after all.

People went into training camp last year not knowing if Suggs was going to start. There was big debate here on that. Things change quickly.

I think da Silva will win the SF spot in camp just for being a more well-rounded player. He's older than Houstan and has more skills. Even if it's not right away, I think his skillset is just way more useful so it would only be a matter of a month or whatever, unless Houstan comes out like prime Klay.

I also think Cole over AB isn't a done deal.

To write something positive. I like all players we signed/resigned in a vacuum and like all the contracts. It's just sooo much overlapping skill and positions while ignoring the others. But we have now a lot good contracts to make a trade unlike last year

+ Most important: No Fultz (yet  )

Random thought, if we sign Tyus Jones as backup pg, for which better fitting center could we trade Carter Jr + Cole?

Bro, Tyus would give me so much recovery on this offseason.

I think the front office has made it clear that anyone who isn't a good defender is DOA. As much as we could use him here. At this point I'm expecting fultz back lol

Yes the Magic has about 13M left. So a 30M contract this year for Isaac, that falls 18M next year is one way cap space could be used.

Add M-Wagner on a room contract and a single LLE vet, and the Magic would be at about 151M in salary for 2024-25. i.e. above the cap but below the luxury threshold.

One thing about Isaac, he currently has a protect contract to Jan 2025, remaining an injury voids his contract. I guess that would be wiped out in any new negotiated contract.

To write something positive, we have maintained cohesiveness, team chemistry, and are able to build upon the lessons learned of playing with each other. The pathway is still in place for Paolo, Franz, and Jalen to lead this team. We needed to surround them with good role players, and veteran leadership... we did that to a degree. We are headed for a more positionless brand of basketball. Jalen at PG, won't be a traditional PG. Franz and Paolo will have to step up as playmakers more than ever. Isaac will play more C (but not full time), this in order to get our best 5 on the court at the same time. Competition will be in place at every position.

This is the way I'd like to see it:

PG Jalen Suggs / Cole Anthony vs Anthony Black
SG Kentavious Caldwell-Pope / Gary Harris vs Jett Howard vs Trevelin Queen
SF Franz Wagner / Tristan da Silva vs (Joe Ingles - we all know it)
PF Paolo Banchero / Jonathan Isaac vs Moe Wagner
C Jonathan Isaac / Wendell Carter vs Goga Bitadze vs Moe Wagner

Here's to hoping we continue to gel and get better.
