I think we'll see a McBride for Kessler type trade at some point. It makes too much sense for both teams.

The Celtics are great because offensively everyone of their starters are skilled and is a threat. You can’t lay off any of their players and leave them open.
You’re right but to be fair we don’t play like the Celtics. We are a more rebounding, defensive oriented team.

The game has completely changed from what it was even just 10 years ago

Ainge likely values Kessler as the next Gobert.. it’s going to be a lot more than just Deuce. He is going to ask for Mikal at the very least

when this new CBA was talked about - there was lots of talk of non stars having to take much lower deals. basically stars and elite roleplayers would get paid and everyone else would be left with scraps. i thought there would be good players left to scoop up on a bargain but so far that has not been the case. maybe because this is still only the 1st year of the new CBA and the cap is going to rise 10% every year going forward.

Very doubtful without #1 picks, and they aren’t trading them for Kessler.

They killed his value last season. If they don't play him more than 24 mins this season, his agency, CAA, is going to ask for a trade and Ainge will be in a major bind. Anyway, I'd keep my eye on that...
In the meantime, Nick Richards looks like the best remaining option with Precious potentially returning on a bird's rights deal. (And maybe Burks as well, for trade fodder). And our 58th pick may be able to brought into Gleague and Summer League to see if he can step in some time soon.
The new head physical trainer dude should hopefully be able to get Mitch in better bball shape.

yea this is a good point. mitch's hands are a huge concern to the point thibs needs to change the offense if he starts. those dribble hand offs are near turnovers every time because just dribbling once and handing the ball off is a challenge for mitch.
i would expect more of the dribble hand offs to run through randle.

I hope it’s a bigger trade with Utah.

I don't think you need to mimic another team to win. Denver didn't win the Finals last year because they were lighting it up from 3. In fact, they were rather unimpressive in that regards, but they were dominant inside. Lakers and Bucks had different formulas as well.
One can even make the argument that it was their defense that won against Dallas. Then there's Dallas' perimeter D is pathetic, Boston's is not. Drive in and kick out is basically basketball 101. It's not Kidd's fault, either. Just a bunch of weak perimeter D players. The Knicks are stocked up on perimeter D.
I'm not crazy about Mitch starting again, but he's not a scrub either. Maybe that new head of medicine can help Mitch. He just needs to stay healthy. There's enough offensive versatility in the starting lineup that could reduce the impact of his offense liabilities.

I don't think he has the soft touch on floaters that Hartenstein has. But better rim protection. And a good lob target.
There goes my hero. Watch him as he goes.

- Finalize the Bridges deal without including Sims/Duece
- Re/sign Precious
- Target the Center’s around the deadline who will get bought out and see we’re close for a title push
I feel this is the most realistic/best route

This is where I'm at. And I'd even throw in some draft capital to get it done.
From a salary cap standpoint it makes alot of sense.
McBride makes 1.8m more then Kessler so if looped into the Bridges trade, we are only short $2.5m from shedding the 1st apron hard cap. And with that we'd have about $15m of 2nd apron space to use.
I'd look to give the NTME ($5.2m) to one of the FA guards to replace Deuce. Tyus Jones would be dream, but Lowry or Pat Bev should suffice.
And then I'd give Precious a 2 year $18mil deal with the second year non-guaranteed to create more tradable salary.
Rotation of:
Walker Kessler Mitchell Robinson Jericho Sims
Julius Randle Precious Achiuwa Ariel Hukporti
OG Anunoby Josh Hart Pac Dadiet
Mikal Bridges Donte DiVincenzo Kevin McCuller
Jalen Brunson Kyle Lowry Tyler Kolek
We stay under the 2nd tax, and projected to remain under it in 2025-2026 as well.
In terms of tradeable salary - Randle, Precious, Mitch add up to about $52m, so you can remain in the market for another max player.

Precious getting offers but still open to Knicks.

I hope Knicks are in communication with him. It would be bad to let him slip away while waiting for a trade for a C.

Yet they would still be able to add another player or few because they currently are millions below the first apron since they didn't retain iHart so they can use the taxpayer exception and vetmins until they get to the first apron, then they are capped....I believe.
I think we also have a TPE from the Obi trade.
Yea, that's another way to add someone but the Knicks will still be hard capped at the apron if the trade stays as initially reported so can't exceed it if they were to try and use the TPE.

He gave us his best effort and played better than we expected. I’m certain Leon is in touch unless he’s got a large trade in the works.
