Re: 2024 Off-Season
I don't think KCP fits the budget. We could sign and trade Stix or Obi but I'd rather keep Obi and look for a cheap vet.

If we are able to sign & trade Stix, I'd rather see us go after someone like Ziaire Williams.

We can, but we only have $5-6m to the tax line, with two roster spots to fill.

Re: 2024 Off-Season
I'm old school, so I would prefer to have a vet minimum center. I don't see it happening though. Especially with Carlisle's tendency to go small when presented with the opportunity.
I still don't quite love the thought of Siakam and Toppin being the go to at center in the event of an injury to Turner or Jackson or even just regular foul trouble, but I imagine that's where things are heading.

Did he like to go small or was that just the best option last season?

Yup,.. I hear ya. It wouldn't be possible & stay below the tax line without involving Kendall Brown, & it would take up a roster spot - which at the moment has its own value. If it were me & the details could get worked out,.. I think I'd still do it.
ZW would give us that big wing (PF size), that - at the moment - is getting time because of his defense on both 3's & 4's. His offense isn't yet efficient of overly effective, but he is 22, and more of a movement based player on a 'grit & grind' team. The fits on both sides of the trade are better than current for either player.
Do you know if the cap numbers for this year are now final?...

Jeff Zillgitt: Kentavious Caldwell-Pope leaving the Denver Nuggets and headed to the Orlando Magic on a three-year deal, I’m told.
Source: x.com
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope will leave the Denver Nuggets to sign a three-year, $66 million deal with the Orlando Magic, as reported by USA Today's Jeff Zillgitt and ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
You were right. Even if we let Ob1 walk, we wouldn't have had the space under the tax for KCP. Good call.

Oh, I get it. And we could theoretically take ZW in with our MLE as salary matching.
Yes, the cap/tax is now final.

True,...we could take him in the mle.
Thank you!

but we'd be hard capped if we passed the first apron and increasing our payroll by the full MLE isn't possible because of that.

His cap hit/tax hit for this year is $6,133,005. It's higher than the tax-payer MLE, so yes,.. if we used our MLE to take in his salary, we would be capped at the first apron. He would most likely put us into the tax,.. but still under the first apron.
Because we had cash in one of our deals,... (I think it was Nunez at the draft?),... we are already hard-capped at the 2nd apron.
Without the sign & trade for Stix (as he has now signed with the Bulls), I can't see it happening. Stix would have been as good a fit in Memphis as Chicago. But he likely has a clearer road to more playing time in Chi-town. Memphis has already cleared up their Apron issues by Watanabe not exercising his option & playing overseas; and not exercising their option on Kennard. So, no reason for them to move Williams without getting something they value in return.

Just talking the mechanics. And I don’t think we ever need to worry about the hard cap at the apron holding us back, as it’s $7+m over the luxury tax line we likely won’t cross.

I agree we won't sign a high dollar free agent to bring that rule into play.

Larson is the 44th pick and got 2 guaranteed years. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Furphy, the 35th pick, get 3 guaranteed years (team option in year 4, probably).

These cost controlled second round contracts are going to become (if they haven’t already) incredibly important in the age of the aprons.

Re: 2024 Off-Season
with Wiseman and Toppin signed and Furphy surely getting a standard contract, I have us with one open standard spot and one open two-way and two unsigned draftees.
Newton, Freeman, OT, and Q. 4 players. 4 spots but that includes a standard contract and these 4 look like only two ways. of course someone could just be cut. it would simplify everything if one of them stars in the summer league.

As the Indiana Pacers have done their due diligence working the phones with NBA teams across the league, rival executives have inquired about Bennedict Mathurin and Jarace Walker, league sources told HoopsHype. Both young players, however, haven’t been made available by Indiana, with the team looking to bring back its core in an attempt to make another deep playoff run this upcoming season.

He killed a lot of teams. He's one of those guys that you love if he is one your team, and you hate if he is the opponent. That is a high compliment.
