CLE/UTAH TRADE OPTIONS

Post#1 » by phraoh » Tue Jul 2, 2024 2:53 pm

Contrary what comes out of public talk from coach and GM/President of Operations of the Cavaliers, with Donovan know signed at least for the next 3 seasons, I do think Cleveland will be looking to trade Garland at a minimum. Cavs would like to get back at a minimum Markennan. Do you think its possible to center a trade around Garland for Markennan? $$$ would need to match and a 3rd team may need involvement. Is there any interest in Utah for Garland? What type of trade for Markennan is Utah looking for?

I don’t see how Utah trading Lauri for Garland makes any sense. They’d be trading Lauri to ugly tank for / years. They should do that really.

But trading for Garland would be one part of building a roster around Lauri… Now that Mitchell is locked up, I think Ainge would trade the Cleveland picks for Garland and add a bit. Like whatever value Sexton has to the third team.

Just needs to find the third team for Sexton and Cleveland picks. I don’t see a star available for trade that makes it make sense for Cleveland. And you don’t trade Garland for your picks back and wait for the opportunity for a star.

Cavs won't trade a locked up Garland for a real flight risk in Lauri. If they're able, the Jazz should renegotiate and extend Lauri. We can circle back around the deadline. I don't think they're able to do that though based on Ainge scrambling to add real talent to that roster.

Jarret Allen isn’t winning you anything. Garland won’t show up in the playoffs. Mobley is a glorified dunk man. Mitchell has some experience but is a liability on defense. To me, the Cavs are a treadmill team.

Yes, I agree....understood that Utah wouldn't want Garland, but was thinking Cleveland never wanted to give Lauri up in the Mitchell trade, but basically was forced to as the only way to get Mitchell versus the threat of the Knicks offer increasing or being enough. Cavs front office really loved Lauri and he would be a great fit for them. A 3 team trade would definitely be the way to go here, and think Cavs are really going to get aggressive now in the trade market now that Mitchell has signed for at least 3 more years with a player option for the 4th.

If Garland goes to a third team for picks and Cleveland adds value on top.

Lauri won't be trade eligible after the r and e until the 2025 offseason.

It looks like he might be trade eligible post-R+E just prior to the deadline. There's some kind of provision for a calendar reset due to the Covid delayed timing of the start of free agency in 2021 and that he's eligible to R+E on 6 Aug instead of 28 Aug.

Yep this is the tricky part. Would like Lauri back as much as anyone, but Utah isn't going to want Garland so a 3rd team has to be involved, and the obvious market for Garland dried up throughout the draft and first few days of free agency. Plus for CLE, Garland would realistically have to be a lot closer in value to Lauri than he is.

Lauri>>>Garland

Unfortunately Garland's value is rock bottom right now after the past 2 disappointing seasons. Maybe Atkinson can help raise his value again. There's no way the Jazz are trading Lauri for Garland unless a 3rd team gives Ainge the rebuilding assets he needs and I don't believe Garland has that type of value around the league. The Jazz would get a better haul dealing Lauri to a playoff team for a warchest.

There is no way Cleveland makes the highest bid for Markkanen. They can't outspend Presti.
