Re: The Washington Nationals Thread
A lot of talk locally about Soto and whether the Nats have a shot. I mean a 12 year deal for $600 million is $50 million a year. Is that really crazy for a 25 year old hall of famer? As of now, they have $53 million in committed salary. Guaranteed roster money is from Strasburg and Ruiz for like $29 million. Deferred payments for Corbin (ends in 2026) and Max (ends in 2028). Everyone else is arbitration eligible. I mean technically if you bring him in at $50 million a year, you're at $79 million in payroll. It's not like you're losing Abrams, Crews, etc. You're bringing all the young guys back and salaries might top what $130 million? That would still probably be bottom half of baseball. Bottom line, the Lerners could probably afford to take the risk.

Yeah, I've been thinking about that as well.
I'd definitely see if Soto's interested.

Re: The Washington Nationals Thread
Nats win the lottery and will have the first pick in the 2025 MLB Draft. The top 2 prospects are Ethan Holliday (younger brother of Orioles Jackson Holliday, son of Matt Holliday) and Jace LaViolette. More than likely Holliday will be the pick since he's repped by Boras and Boras/Rizzo have history. Beltway Series will have some oomph in a few years!

Re: The Washington Nationals Thread
Nats have had a wild 3 months. They get the first pick in the Ethan Holliday draft, and today it was announced that this will be the final year of the MASN deal as the O's and Nats have reached an agreement.
On top of all that, they'll be getting a stadium rights and jersey sponsorship deals done.
My guess is Lerners will keep the team, and agree to a TV rights deal with Leonsis. It makes too much sense. Ted gets year round sports coverage where Wizards/Cap anchor Fall-Spring, Mystics/Nats cover summer-early fall. If only Commanders and Ted could agree to some sort of post and pregame Commanders coverage.

I wouldn't be surprised if Ted purchases a percentage of the team with first-right-to-buy if the Lerners decide to sell at some point.

My worst nightmare is Ted buying the Nats from the Lerners. The Lerners suck but please don’t sell to Ted

Him trying to move the Wizards to Virginia was shady, but I'm really trying to understand the vitriol folks have for Ted.

Caps are fine for what its worth (currently 1st in the league) and the Nats already have a good GM and manager. Seems like if Ted is willing to open his wallet and stay out of the way, the Nats would be fine (they might have been able to keep Juan Soto already although they would not have had James Wood among other players).

Seriously Rafael? 20 years of Mr. Pringle’s reign of terror. The double bottom line. The image of half Ted/half MLK Jr. The smartest guy in the room smugness.

Can someone help me understand how good or bad the team might be before the season starts.

Re: The Washington Nationals Thread
They’re going to be better than last year but still won’t sniff the playoffs. The Lerners are content with keeping the payroll low for now. They could’ve really added some talent to support the young talent this team has to push for a playoff spot but wanted to just sit around and add scraps. It’s honestly pathetic. There are some really good pieces to build around with this team though. The OF could be the best in the league in a couple years.
