If I was JD I would not come back to run that SL team unless it led to a guaranteed deal at the end of it. There's nothing left for him to do up in Maine. Nothing.
and that's "MR. Irrelevant" to you!!

Not ideal for him, but what's his backup plan? He currently doesn't have an offer from any team for a guaranteed deal, and probably isn't any closer to one by sitting out Summer League. This might be his best chance to get a deal from us or another team heading into next season. If not, maybe another team gets another look at him and wants him on their G-league team and they at least have a better path to a roster spot than we do.

I'm sure his agent is on the phone right now trying to accomplish exactly that. I would think a team like Denver might be interested.

Very possible. It's not uncommon though for guys to play on one Summer League team and then another's G-League team later on.

I think that it's best for him to play the Summer League. It's another chance to Showcase himself.
Maybe he can latch on somewhere else, if not here.

I'm thinking the C's might put him into their last roster spot if necessary--and playing for another team in SL could be as good a route as there is to get there.

Meh not surprising. Underwhelming college player and not a great shooter to boot.
Good news is that the Lakers are handing multi-year contracts to bad college players so maybe there is hope for him.

First-year guy out of a tiny high school who was good enough to get drafted based on his passing, unselfish, active O and D, and rebounding. (Wyc himself once told me that they picked Rondo in part because rebounding was a marker of a tough nosed-enough PG to succeed in the NBA.) I'm not sure why they haven't managed to get his TOs down. But then again, JB got the then richest contract in NBA history after 7 years in the league and before getting his TOs down...

JB was never a high turnover guy, that is a myth. He doesn’t rack up assists, I think that is where people get lost.

TOs are always judged in relationship to assists/ball handling.

I hear you but I’m following Joe, it should be judged on how much he has the ball vs how much he loses it. He needs to pass it more, this is something I could agree on. The point is a lot of players who possess the ball as much as he has would love to have such low turnover %.
People aren’t even basing it off of anything but their emotions when he has poor games, they make a career out of the few games. He handles the ball a lot and doesn’t lose it. Mentioning handles is doing that, because if his handles were as bad as they say he’d have been averaging high turnovers, he hasn’t.
Coaches have admitted that JB’s role over the years has been to get buckets, Joe is making him facilitate more. I think, in time he will average more assists and hopefully keep the turnovers down. People were pissed at Joe for his stance, said they couldn’t win that way, now call him and JB CHAMPIONS! Getting assists (passing) is a skill I don’t think he’ll ever master, if he can level off at 5/2.5-ish then that will be a good space for him.
The reason I’m saying the turnovers isn’t the problem (overblown and false) is because he handles it so much that expecting him to be anything lower is unrealistic for anybody. He can get the assists up though.

I didn’t follow stats on JD, I just watched, I can’t say if he turned it over a lot in relation to his ball possession but he has averaged around tops in assists in the league during his short career.
If it is as you say it is, assist/turnover, then he must have extremely high turnovers because didn’t he average around 8 assists? It must be something crazy because if it’s like 8/4 that’s not that bad.

He overdribbles. Doesn't make decisions quickly enough. I think he improved in that area during his two years, but not enough.

The number of unforced turnovers is still absurd, too. Like a young Jaylen Brown but way more responsible for handling the ball

Eh, surprised we didn't pull the plug on this experiment. Two way so whatever, but I don't see him ever becoming a rotation player in the NBA. Probably be outta the league in a year or two.

Turnovers were a huge problem for him in college, as evidenced by his scouting report video by Box and One (which I can't post on here since Adam Spinella, Box and One guy took down all of his old vids when he got hired by the Sixers).
He was also a turnover machine in summer league last year..
And has had some turnover issues in the G league.
Turnovers, shooting and defense are his main weaknesses..as well as being kind of undersized for a guard..

Upside is he's hyper athletic which doesn't matter that much for a small guard anyways. Not sure what Brad is cooking here, but guess he sees something.

Meh, I don't see it with him. Just doesn't seem like an NBA player. I definitely agree with signing a ball handler to one of those two way spots. If any 2 of Holiday/White/Pritchard miss the same game, we'll have to resort to the square peg in the round hole that is Jaden Springer playing PG. Probably still a better option than JD, but nice to have another layer of depth.
