S&T Idea: Tyus to Orlando

Post#1 » by Skin » Tue Jul 2, 2024 6:54 pm

Cole Anthony, 2 Second Round picks to WAS for Tyus Jones.

Jalen Suggs now starts, but Tyus can give the Magic someone who could be a traditional PG. Jalen will get minutes at SG too, so Tyus still has a chance at meaningful minutes, and can mentor Anthony Black.

Washington salvages something for nothing and gets a fire cracker in Cole who will shake up their lockerroom fun factor. S&T deals don't usually include grand returns for the originating team, so this is typical.

I think it costs a 1st if you're dumping Cole. That Wizards team would be lol bad after this.

Orlando has the cap space to sign Tyus outright, so this deal is really just paying 2 2nds to dump Anthony. Which seems light for a guy who has $26M/2yrs left.

Cole had a pretty rocky season last year but he and Paolo won us game 6 in crunch time. It isn't worth it to dump his salary when we could give him a year to see if he can return to first half of last year Cole, who was in the discussion for 6moty.

The Magic really want to bring Mo Wagner back.

Done deal and not much more space for Tyus.

I think Orlando is okay with Anthony for the meantime, Tyus will provide more of what Orlando needs but he isn’t a 1st better considering his limitations.

But I do think there’s some merit for Washington to consider OPs original deal. Maybe add a second or two to add a little more incentive.

I don’t follow the Magic, what’s the issue with Cole Anthony? Just curious

How are they not bad before this? Tyus is a FA. so this is just them getting a player and some 2nds.

more a scoring guard than a true PG, but stuck in a smaller PG body (6'2). his game more suited to 6th man scoring guard.

Does he have an attitude problem?

Or they could not take back Cole Anthony and take the cap savings over the next two seasons.

actually, no. He was even at the draft the year after him welcoming Suggs and Franz. by all accounts, great team guy.

could be. its not a make or break move for Orlando, Tyus wouldnt be the starter anyways.

Poor defender, not a very good playmaker for his size, but really his main issue is his inconsistent 3pt shot. He can score and make tough shots. He had a pretty good year last season as he improved his efficiency. Unfortunately, his 3pt% improvement didnt hold up this year, but his 2pt% did. If he can get back to 36% shooting from three, he's far from a bad contract. In fact, i think he'd be positive value.

His last year is a Team option. No longer term commitment being forced.

Absolutely the opposite. When he's on the bench, he's our biggest cheerleader. Great lockeroom guy. We just signed KCP, so Jalen will be our PG. Anthony Black was the 6th pick. Neither are pure PG types, and neither is Cole, so a guy like Tyus gives us something we don't have.

Again, Cole's last year is a Team option. His money is fair for his contributions. Magic just need another type of PG. If they need to move Cole in another deal and just sign Tyus, they probably could. Think this works for both teams.

Poor defender

This isn’t entirely true.

Cole Anthony ranked 17th best among all PG AND SG in the entire league in D-LEBRON this season.

Top-5 with players under 6’3”

He’s technically considered a neutral defender, not good but not as bad as many people claim him to be.

It’s rare for guards his size to be good defenders, but him not being a total liability kinda helps his case within the role he plays with ALL things considered.

To everyone who responded thanks. I saw someone post that it would take a first to move him. As a Pistons fan, it sounded interesting, but a little out there. So I wondered if there were issues.

He’s not exactly the point guard we need, but at 14 wins last season we kind of need anything. I would absorb his contract and say Denver’s first next season for some mid second round pick in a heartbeat. But it doesn’t seem likely to happen.
