Lakers Pivot to DeRozan

Post#1 » by Anderson Hunt » Tue Jul 2, 2024 8:08 pm

(A) Lakers trade Vanderbilt, Reddish, and Hayes to CHI for a sign and traded DeMar DeRozan:

Vanderbilt - 11
Reddish - 2.5
Hayes - 2̲.̲5̲
16m for DeRozan's 16m

Good for CHI because they get two players in Vanderbilt and Hayes (especially Vanderbilt) that they have use for instead of losing DeRozan for nothing.

Bad for CHI because as good as Vanderbilt is as a rebounder and on defense, he can't shoot and is injury prone. Also, Reddish adds to a logjam on the wing and Hayes is erratic.

Good for LAL because they get a go-to scorer and a player with enough cache in the eyes of LeBron James to make good on his promise to take a large paycut.

Bad for the Lakers because DeRozan is an older player who isn't a floor spacer or a guy who has a history of being a plus-defender. Also bad because the Lakers lose Vanderbilt who still has untapped potential as an elite role-player.

Lakers need to add some small incentive. Maybe after drafting Bronny they view JHS as expendable, or maybe they have some 2nds to throw in?

I think it is debatable that Vandy is even neutral value at 11m. But at 16m he is clearly not positive, that is what this trade is. A couple 2nds need to be here or pay a 3rd team to eat Hayes and Reddish.

That's some really, really big leaps on logic being made here. Hayes and Reddish are both EXPIRING minimum contracts. There's no long-term money being made here, so there's really no reason that Chicago should actively be avoiding them.

As a Cavs fan we'd give you Jerome for either Hayes or Reddish. Jerome is guaranteed and could be cut for nothing.

There is no reason for them to be actively paying their salary either. No leap at all.

They're $21M under the apron, and $18.3M under the luxury tax. They can afford to eat it.

I think Chicago gets a couple seconds here and it’s a good deal for both. Vandy fits and would have a real role there IMO.

Stix might play some minutes at the four.. But should be limited. Theres a clear role for Vandy, especially if Vooch is the starting center and his shots are falling..

But think Demar passes on a deal starting at 16.. think if he would take 16, Chicago just pays him. I don’t see a real tank coming in Chicago like we thought..

I like this idea of LAL wants DDR.

Maybe LAL adds a 2nd and CHI chips in one of their own to dump Reddish/Hayes elsewhere. I think Vandy fits well next to Vucevic and Jalen Smith. It's a good roster fit. In CHI's never ending quest for the 8 seed, I think this makes sense for them.

The rumored deal is:

Nets get DLo
Lakers get DeMar
Bulls get ???

I'll give you the respect due for not sending the Bulls more guards.

Some wanted 2nds to be added, I don't even need that bonus to do this. It would be up to the Lakers to say yes

Vanderbilt fits in nicely at the 4, not great but good at this point. young and athletic is where the Bulls are going
We're dreaming here, they could swing a Lavine trade with SAC for Huerter and Barnes which makes this one look even better

Hayes is a good 3rd center behind Vucevic (for now) and Smith
Reddish might stick or get released in training camp

Could just send them Rui or Vanderbilt unless Chicago prefers Bogdonavic for some reason but I think LA should keep DLo

With Reaves, DeMar and LeBron it doesn't seem like Lakers would have spot for DLo to play his way unless one gets injured.

Rumour is that Nets will take on Dlo for a price

If they’re getting the incentive, then what do the Bulls receive?
