What team has ~$13M in useless money to just deal? That'd be a best case scenario is you find a team who has $13M in useless expiring that is interested in taking a gamble on him.

DEN using Zeke.
GSW using GPIII or Looney.
LAC using Tucker.
LAL using Gabe.
MEM using Clarke or Konchar + filler.
MIL using Pat.
PHX using Little + filler.
SAC using Duarte + McDaniels.

There are a ton of options. If RWIII is healthy and playing at his normal level he should be very flippable to a team making a run for it.

Assuming Ball comes to Portland?

Think this really comes down to protections, but I like this framework.

When you have to put the caveat "when healthy" when he's played in 41 games over 2 seasons, you can't. And of those teams you suggested, how many of them A) need a center like Robert Williams and B) willing to give up what you're suggesting is "extra"?

Teams going for seeding regularily will roll the dice a bit at the DL. If RWIII is healthy come this trade deadline I would expect him to have a market.

Correct. Ball gets traded to Portland but is cut.I assuming he never plays NBA ball again

Yeah, Portland is in a situation where we need to be utilizing our capspace as much as possible to acquire 1st rounders. That means sometimes using a roster spot on a risky player hoping to increase their value to flip them, of course with the chance of ending up with nothing, instead of selling out now for second round picks.

Lakers trade: Russell + Vanderbilt + Vincent + 2029 1st (unprotected) + a 2030 swap (lottery protected)

Blazers could then re-route Russell to a 3rd team for a future draft pick or two. They could also just waive Vincent

My rationale for Rui instead of JV, was I preferred JV defensive ability and IQ for Lakers whilst I think Rui needs more consistent minutes to develop which he would get in Portland. But either is fine for the return of Grant + Timelord

the problem is a Grant for Russell + Rui trade puts the Blazers over the tax line and their cheap-azz Seattle ownership would not sign off on that

If LAL wants to make 2 big moves + keep Rui - this also works -

PDX OUT - Grant, Reath
PDX IN - Vincent, Vandy, 2029 LAL FRP UNP, 2030 LAL FRP Swap, PDX FRP returned from CHI

LAL OUT - Russell, Vincent, Vandy, JHS, 2029 LAL FRP UNP, 2030 LAL FRP Swap
LAL IN - LaVine, Grant, Reath

CHI OUT - LaVine, PDX FRP
CHI IN - Russell, JHS

LAL then signs Tyus w/ the MLE -

G - Tyus Jones / Austin Reaves / Bronny James
G - Zach LaVine / Cam Christie / Austin Reaves
F - Jerami Grant / Dalton Knetch / Cam Reddish
F - LeBron James / Rui Hachimura / Cam Reddish
C - Anthony Davis / Duop Reath / Hayes or Wood

that can't be legal...Lakers sending out 45M in salary and taking back 75M. That would put them 20M over the 2nd apron. Of course, they could always renounce their rights to Lebron...:)

Knecht needs to be in the trade for Grant and Williams. Knecht and 1 pick.

Agreed. Grant is not nothing, and if TL can play at all this tilts toward the Lakers in a big way.

I played around with a bigger trade between the Blazers and Lakers on the ESPN Trade Machine, which said this is legal. I have my doubts.

Blazera trades Grant, Simons, Williams III, and Rupert.

Lakers trade Russell, Hachimura, Vanderbilt, Vincent, Knecht, Reddish, 2029 Unprotected 1st and either 2031 1st or pick swaps in 2028 and 2030.

Stop giving Chicago D'Angelo Russell, we do not need more guards or want him.
