We trade Rudy and get Lauri back, moving Kat back to center?

Hmm

I have honestly thought about that.

People keep bringing up the fact that other than two-way Jesse Edwards, Connelly has not really brought in a big man in the mold of Gobert...defense first and setting screens on offense. They are all mobile stretch bigs. Markkanen fits that too. With Dillingham, we are going to be running. This will likely be the identity of the next generation of Wolves. Gobert is the outlier there, not Towns or Reid.

In my absolute wet dream we get our GSW version of Shaun Livingston and make championship run. I.e. smart defensive minded, big high IQ PG. Maybe CHI waive Lonzo Ball and he signs here?

The story was Morris was out of shape due to injury and was a bit demotivated to be in game shape playing on a bad team. I think now he will be dialed in for next season so good pickup.

I think Rudys defense is just too impactful to let go but I do think we could still be a very dangerous team if we went that route. Game 2 vs Denvers is an example of our peak play without Rudy, I'd like to find an elite defensive PF though.

I’ve given that some thought too.

Many of you guys are better X-and-O guys than me, but Towns defensive liabilities never seemed to me to be physical. If I recall, opponents FG% against KAT was a good defensive metric for him. And when he was drafted, people thought he could be a defensive force. His problems were also never even about defensive laziness. The problem I always saw in drop coverage was that with MIN’s constant young, weak, perimeter defenders, KAT constantly had an opponent coming into the paint with a full head of steam. Towns would come out to challenge him, and leave his man uncovered, breaking the team defense. He never seemed to change, even with guys behind him that could help protect the rim a little (Covington, McDaniels).

So if MIN trades Gobert, we’re obviously getting worse defensively, but by how much? One of my favorite parts about Gobert is that he brought a defensive culture to the Wolves, or at least stoked the fire. If he was gone, how much of that defensive culture remains? And we saw Towns play some surprisingly good perimeter defense at times. I’m sure it helps having Gobert behind you, but does he maintain the defensive intensity if Rudy is gone? He always talked about defensive identity constantly in interviews. Even more, did watching Gobert play drop coverage like a master influence Towns, so that he would also try to master it? I just don’t know.

I am sure there are some third teams that would like Gobert, and can send UTA some picks and young assets. I would want Kessler along with Markannen, and some very strong assurances from Lauri that he wanted to be in MIN longterm on a contender.

I don't remember who said we need to find our own version of Shaun Livingston, but this is it right here!

I remembered a restriction that second apron teams couldn’t acquire a player that has been waived who made more than $12 mil, and Lonzo picked up his option for $21. However, it looks like this restriction only applies during the regular season.

You underestimate the “Nevermind” effect. Rudy is such a natural deterrent that it makes it easier for everyone else to defend in space. Jaden, NAW, and Ant are all elite in part because they can take more chances with Rudy behind them.

No idea where to put this or if it's been talked about. RD and TSJ threw out 1st pitches at Twins game tonight and were interviewed a short time ago. Both seem very happy to be in MN and very likeable...

Thanks. You could have put it in the Dilly thread, the TSJ thread or both. :D

One threw way high (I think TSJ,) the other threw in the dirt near a batter’s box.

Throwing a pitch isn't easy. As a tennis player I could hit a serve over 100 MPH with precision. I couldn't come close to throwing a baseball over the plate.

Sampras was more like 130 MPH. I never topped 110.
