Will we have some sort of point guard on the Summer league team?

If Davison declines, then we have to add a couple.

Let Rico run the point. He was a QB once. Get the ball in his hands as much as possible. See what he can do.
Also what's up with Steward. IMO, he was more exciting at times than JD.

Only the Bulls and Magic have as few SL players named as the C's:

There was a forward from UNH that I read about on one of the UDFA preview kind of articles that was borderline NBA camp guy, bring him in. I know they are heavy on wings with Scheierman, Walsh, Watson and Enaruna but what the heck.
Bring in House's kid too lol. And I'd take Jay Scrubb back if he is recovered.

Austin Ainge said a few days ago that they had some "dudes" lined up, but that they weren't ready to announce them yet. I also want a good long look at Scheierman and Watson. And I wonder what they'll do at the point if Davison doesn't commit.

I would love for the Celtics to add 6'3" point guard Amari Bailey as a two-way. Goodbye JD!

How do they end up deciding who is in the California and Utah summer leagues? Is it just down to who is willing to foot the bill to have a team?
Selfishly I'd like to see the Celtics play in 1 out the 2 because it means more basketball to watch with a vested interest. Beyond that though, I feel like organizations always benefit from being involved in as much as possible at every level. For example it was absolutely nuts to me that the Suns waited so long before acquiring their own G League team.
I’m sure they do their own cost/reward analysis on something as relatively trivial as a 3-4 day summer league tournament, but part of me still always thinks it can never hurt to participate in this type of thing. Your guys get more time around their coaches, you get more time with prospective G League players, it’s just additive experience all around for the organization (plus it obviously doesn’t impact your NBA roster/coaches really, unless any of them willingly want to get involved).
As always, it’s easy say they should do it when it’s not your money, but still it’s the type of thing that I think can only add value at the end of the day.

One year they did do multiple leagues when they had a bunch of young guys about ten years ago.

I read somewhere that Davison had broken some team rule up in Maine. Not sure what did or did not happen (missed weekly quota of lobster rolls, maybe?)
In any case, if the Celtics have cooled on JD there is need of a replacement PG for Maine/SL. Amari Bailey is very interesting as he seems like a nice upgrade to Davison and has a bit more size. Maybe a very young version of the guy I wanted to add last year, Delon Wright?
Watson, Enaruna and Bailey as 2-Way? Would Bailey accept that? Moving from Hornets to Celtics would be an upgrade, but not many minutes with the C's except the occasional call-up.

Queta/Watson/Walsh/Scheierman/Bailey with Enaruna/Peterson/Begarin would be a fun lineup!

Would that make him Amari Bailey Zappe, the C's 4th-string PG?

5. Eric Gaines — UAB
Gaines is one of the most gifted athletes I have personally scouted in my career thus far. As a defensive playmaker, he’s able to create his transition looks while Gaines also can control the pace of the game as a playmaker.
At 6’1” and a lanky frame at 148 pounds, Gaines doesn’t have outlier defensive skills to warrant an NBA roster spot. His 26.9% from three at over four attempts per game is another area that will lead to NBA decision-makers being skeptical in handing him a roster spot, while the G League pool has many talented guards who cannot find an NBA job.
However, while evolving into a floor general two years after transferring to UAB, Gaines’ ability to control the pace and lead the offense will be an intriguing trait. If he can work on becoming a much more efficient shooter off the catch, it will add value to his paint-touch-generating rim pressure thanks to his high-level athleticism and explosiveness.
Despite clear concerns about measurement and efficiency, Gaines will likely sign a two-way contract this summer. Hereafter, he can focus on developing into a feasible role for later in the season.
The summer league team could bring this guy in for PG. Almost 6’8” wingspan so not as small as he seems.

Davison and Amari Bailey are basically same size.
They were about same ability inn G league last yaar.
Bailey with potentially more shooing and defense upside..so he is a slightly better prospect than JD imo.
I mean, sure..may be give Bailey the last 2-way over JD. But let's not get too excited about a guy who just got waived by one of the worst teams in the league.
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything

My comment was predicated on a previous post about Davison falling out of favor due to breaking a team rule while on the Maine team (which I can't corraborate).
So if there are legs to that rumor, and the pressing team need -- at least in the developmental pipeline -- is bringing up a new PG prospect, then the suddenly available Bailey is worth a look. His value should be evaluated independently of the quality of the team he was on for the past year, imo.
Also, I see him listed at 6-3 and up to 6-5. He looks more D Wright-sized than JD-sized, at least from the highlight reals. Maybe less bounce than JD but yeah better overall offensive skill.
Anyway, not really that excited about him, just thinking he could be a good fit as a 2-Way of then other 2 are more swing/frontcourt players in Enaruna and Watson.

So will anyone play the point for this Summer league team? Or will Walsh be playing it?
