The other options are simply not good enough to move the needle the other way and Id rather be deficient at the 2 than opening up a hole inside. Team needs to give an opportunity to these young guys to hit, its a massive failure if none of them can contribute. Its not like Marjon, AJG, AJJ are teenagers. If these guys are deadweight at this point then Horst has to be fired.

I’m cautiously optimistic on Green/Dre being contributors this year, not optimistic at all on MarJon and think he gets traded either this offseason or during the year.

Random shower thought, but it would be pretty wild if players could reallocate their salaries to help sign free agents for team over the apron. It's kind of annoying when max players complain about not getting enough help when they now make $60m and take up 35% of the cap. Like Dame and Giannis, you want to add (insert FA that costs $20m a year) you can each reallocate $10m to the FA. Team is prevented from adding new salary. Would need to make it an automatic NTC for length of allocation. Sorry, random thought experiment.

Side note:
3) PF Miles Bridges
Bridges has recently developed into a very strong outside shooter and is still a fantastic player in transition. Obviously, the Hornets would be interested in bringing him back, and they have told him as much. However, there are several teams that could make a run at Bridges.
The most obvious would be the Detroit Pistons. Bridges is from Michigan and might be more inclined to play for his hometown team. That said, other teams with young cores looking to add another piece like the Memphis Grizzlies or Utah Jazz could also be in the running.
At this point, there have been very few rumors surrounding Bridges, but he has been connected to the Jazz and Pistons in the past. In May, NBA insider Michael Scotto claimed that the Jazz would certainly be one of the teams interested alongside the Hornets.

Yeah, that’d be nice. Is he really a vet min candidate?

After watching these highlights, i doubt it.

He was making 18 last season. Thats about right for him, although i could also see him getting bumped to 22.

Things are way more complicated with the cap and I really don't know how it works anymore. But say you can move Pat which frees up a way to add Trent in the general same salary area or the Exception money that seems like a win to me. Still think he'd be priced out of us unless he really wants to be with Dame, you'd think some crap team would have room to give him a legit contract and let him put 15-20 ppg while they lose.

He was well below replacement level last year. He's lucky to have a job. Doesn't matter, Toronto will eventually resign him, on a discount, because they're dumb. They don't know why they suck.

Trent is not a perfect fit but certainly would help and would be nice to get a ring chaser deal that’s above a vet min if playing with two stars and contending is alluring enough

I think I have more faith in Chris Livingston contributing this season than I do Marjon at this point. I hope he can turn it around this year and I'm eating crow by seasons end, but I'm just not seeing it with him anymore.

Curious what Beasley is going to end up getting. Feels like he did enough to earn more than the min, but this CBA is kind of killing that just above min market. GTJ is a very similar player and should definitely be getting more than the min. If he did end up settling for the min in hopes of getting something in line with, or just below KCP next year, his fit with us would be an improvement defensively and he'd likely be similar offensively. He's no defensive stopper, but he can at least survive on that end.

He is question is will he accept that playing with dame and actually starting .Bucks can offer him a starting gig maybe that would outweigh the money part

I like AJJ, But I think I have more faith in Livingston than him too.

If Livingston can shoot 38% from 3, he becomes a key rotation piece. That’s really his only swing skill needed because his body and defense seemed nba ready.

Ajax shot much better than expected (albeit on low volume) but the rest of his game was way more primitive than I was expecting. Maybe he was trying too hard, but he was frequently getting himself out of advantageous positions and decision making was suspect. Maybe another year in a more stable environment will allow the game to slow down for him. Who knows?

Hard to gauge much from summer league, but it'll be super interesting to see the strides some of these guys made. Like I want to see if Livingston looks like an actual wing and not just a smaller kenneth faried.

I probably have more faith in Livingston than Marjon and Green.

This is where I am. Winged Lactose is a proven shooter and willing defender. Enthusiasm Jackson was not the all out shooting atrocity as feared though look, his form is decidedly butt. HOWEVAH, he showed out under the bright lights and not to put the whammy on his future prospects, Dr. Glen Rivers Not a Doctor seemed to take a shine to his young charge and bestowed him tick above a total deemed miserly. Doc Rivers is for the chirrens!

Any regular contributions from Marjon is an unanticipated windfall.

No clue at all on Livingston and not holding my breath for anything. Had a low-rent DJ Wilson moment against Utah. <shrugs>

The two groups of young dudes we have is pretty fun.

Need to step into real roles dudes, ranked from most ready/likely to least: Green, Jackson, Beauchamp

Unproven/no data but talented: Livingston, Johnson, Smith, TyTy(?)

We pretty much have to have a few of these guys prove rotation worthy this year and ideally another one or two show potential

I’ve also come full circle to accepting the run it back with moves on the margins for better fit- more athletes, better defenders.

I can get behind this rationale, when we were at full strength we looked pretty good and that was with an incoherent scheme and some sloppy fitting players.

I might be one of the few here but I’d be fine seeing if Green can start. Surely it’s an improvement defensively and he has the shooting to take advantage of the gravity the starters create. He also won’t force dumb shots taking good looks away from better players.

Give the unproven guys a shot early in the year and make a move to fill in the gaps at the deadline. I’d you get lucky, a bench lineup of Wright, Jackson, Beauchamp, Portis is an improvement defensively and more athletic, and you lost none of your core/strength. I’d agree with emunney that the highest need would be an athletic big, followed by an athletic defensive wing.

But why not see if and who of your young guys are capable of filling out the rotation and bring in the ring chasers/trades to fill in the holes. It’s easy to look at your biggest weaknesses and try to turn them to strengths but if the market isn’t there to make a drastic change you can lean into your strengths and patch up your weaknesses and improve.
