Boeve is out for his third straight game. Haven't been able to find out if he reaggravated his hammy or if it's for potential trade (hope not)
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

The third of the Brewers big international period signings.

He's having an okay introduction to professional ball down in the DSL with a .473/.524/1.213 slash. Jorge Quintana was their highest rated signing and he's had a slow start, but Jesus Made has had huge start as well with a .370/.465/1.095 line.

I wish I was more excited about Lara but I can't get there. He's got great speed, great glove, elite eye at the plate, super young for A+ ball. But at some point he's gonna have to hit, and do it with some power.

I looked up Altuve's numbers in the minors tonight for a refresher on how a guy Lara's size succeeded, and Altuve was an insanely good hitter. Career .322 hitter with an .854 OPS. 30 home runs. Of course, Altuve is a future HOF'r and it's not fair to compare the #8 Brewers prospect to him. But Lara's gonna have to start showing some kind production soon.

Now, the Brewers will add another piece to the return in the Corbin Burnes trade with Baltimore when the 2024 MLB Draft begins Sunday. Milwaukee has four selections on Day 1 of the three-day event, including their own three (Nos. 17, 57 and 67 overall) plus an extra pick at No. 34, which came from the Orioles as part of the Burnes trade.

“It just gives you an extra shot at a good player that you’re interested in,” said Brewers vice president of domestic scouting Tod Johnson. “If not [for that], you go from 17 to 57, which, you watch a lot of good players go off the board in that span. And then the extra money.”

The money is key, because of the way the MLB Draft works. Even though they don’t pick until 17th in the first round, the Brewers have the league’s ninth-biggest pool at $12,984,400.

Given the makeup of this year’s Draft class, it’s a particularly good year to have the extra selection from Baltimore in the 30s, Johnson said.

“It’s a top-heavy group. There’s a top 10 that have separated themselves in a lot of the rankings and mock drafts,” Johnson explained. “From there to 50, I don’t think it’s a weak group, it’s just not a very differentiated group. It’s not like you can point to the 20th-best player and say very definitively that he’s better than the 40th-best player. But I don’t think that’s different than most classes, honestly. I think we think we know that better sometimes than we actually do.

“That’s why I think we’ll get good players with all of our picks. I think we’ll look back and be pretty excited about what we accomplished here.”

Doesn't sound like there's much hope for guys like Nick Kurtz, Jac Caglianone (a couple slugging 1B), or Konnor Griffin (superstar upside prep) dropping.

It's interesting to have Gasser as low as 9 given how he looked early on in his career in the bigs
Coach Drew: "Milwaukee has always been a team that I have been intrigued by. When we played them, they were a tough team for us to play. Although we did beat them all four times"

Yea, Gasser is too low. He's got to be the #1 arm in the org after what he showed.

I was as high as anyone on Wichrowski heading into the season, and he's very young and inexperienced for AA, but he hasn't shown enough to be #5 in the system. That's wild.

Bitonti is tearing it up in Rookie league ball, but it's such a low level I don't know how you can have him as high as #7 in a deep system.

Lara is still too high.

Logan Henderson is too low.

Shouts to Manuel Rodriguez. He's more than holding his own in Carolina at 18 years old and isn't walking guys.

No inside info from Law in his latest mock draft.

17. Milwaukee Brewers: Ryan Waldschmidt, OF, Kentucky
The Brewers’ draft strategy for much of the last decade has been “let other teams do weird stuff and take whoever falls,” and I can’t argue with the results, which got them Brock Wilken, who would have been a top-ten pick in this year’s draft, at the 18th pick last year. Waldschmidt, Tibbs, Smith, and Carson Benge would all fit that mold.

He's got Waldschmidt as a possibility for the teams picking 8, 9, 10, 12, and 16. The strike zone management fits what the Brewers have been coveting for the last few years, but not the corner OF profile.

Fangraphs with their mock 1.0.

17. Milwaukee Brewers
Pick: Seaver King, SS, Wake Forest
The Brewers aren’t scared off by a lack of prototypical size (Eric Brown Jr., Robert Moore, Dylan O’Rae, etc.), which is the only thing King lacks. Milwaukee has also been more open to letting guys try to move up the defensive spectrum, which would ideally happen for King, who played mostly third base at Wake. This is the first spot Kaelen Culpepper’s name has surfaced. Carson Benge has also been mentioned here and at the next two picks.

Benge feels more like a Brewers pick than others I've seen mocked to them.
