Will let someone smarter than me re: prospects inform there, but this seems like a solid move. FWIW, his recent games seem quite a bit better than how he started the season, which is encouraging also.

Hard to really question the Brewers too much on reclamation projects

Be huge if Civale is serviceable. Bullpen should get a boost too this month if Williams and DL Hall comeback. I think some have said Hall is tracking to be a good back end bullpen guy.

Barrios was #26 in my rankings. A solid prospect but the Brewers have a handful of guys with his bat-first, power-last toolbox.

Obviously interested in seeing how Civale does, but what this also means is it opens a spot at Wisconsin for Pratt. I think he's seen his last AB in Carolina.

Inning eater? He doesn't need to be a 2.5 era guy but it'd be nice if he could be relied upon for 6 innings.

This also (finally) opens a spot for BItonti to head north. He's been murdering ACL pitching. Baez can move back to SS in Carolina, Bitonti slides in at 3B.

Last week when Boeve was scratched it was a legit injury. I'm hoping that's the case this time. Do not trade him.

It's the Brewers so Civale will either be awesome or his arm will fall off like his second start.

Would have to think Turang a lock to be a reserve with Ortiz, Megill, Hudson, Adames as possible chances. I dont think Hudson has a high likelihood to get in personally.

Can't believe it's 5 years between appearances for Yelich. Time really flies.

I don't see how you can leave off a guy with an ERA under 1 in 45 innings. That's Andrew Miller/Josh Hader territory. He's still second among relievers in ESPN's WAR metric, and his 2.3 is significantly better than the next guy at 1.8. Can saves really trump that? Helsley with an ERA over 2.5? I'm not sure. Anyone know how Hudson's WPA compares to other relievers? I'd be shocked if it's not top 3.

Adames has way too much competition at SS, especially with Turner stealing a spot in the vote when he wouldn't have otherwise made the team IMO. Ortiz lacks volume and proven track record. Lacking one of those things would be okay, but not both. Riley, Chapman, and McMahon have been plenty valuable and are proven commodities.

Megill is an interesting one. Can he sneak in? I'd be worried about him stealing Hudson's spot, to be honest, but his periphals are a lot better than Helsley's I think.

Re: Brewers 2024 Discussion - Wilson to the pen

Stark has a HOF column out where he puts current players into tiers.

Had this to say about Yeli.

The ‘Let’s Talk Next Year’ Club
Let’s just discuss this collection as a group. Nearly every name on this list can feel like a star at any given moment. Jacob deGrom owns two Cy Youngs. Christian Yelich was an MVP. Corey Seager is a two-time World Series MVP. We don’t have to explain to anybody who the heck Alex Bregman, Marcus Semien, Xander Bogaerts or Yu Darvish are.

But they’re all north of 30 now. And if they’re bound for Cooperstown, this is a pivotal time. Yelich and Semien have both cleared the 40-WAR plateau. But Yelich’s WAR total (41.9 at age 32) still ranks behind every expansion-era Hall of Fame outfielder at this age, except for Jim Rice. Semien (43.9 at age 33) ranks behind every expansion-era Hall of Fame infielder at this age.

So with every one of these players, their peaks are waning. Are they really going to defy the aging curve and build a true Hall of Fame case? If they are, now would be a good time.

I guess Yelich in the HOF never entered my mind. It makes sense that he's in the discussion.

He only has 3 All-Star appearances so it's easy to forget that he already had 17.5 WAR before he got traded here.

I know that sports is littered with what ifs, hypotheticals and strange turns of luck, but if Yelich had not fouled that ball off his knee in 2019, his Hall chances would probably look significantly better.

He was absolutely raking when he went down, so I think he nabs his second straight MVP had he finished out the season. Now I know back-to-back MVPs doesn't ensure a trip to Cooperstown (Dale Murphy can vouch for that), but maybe the Crew advances deeper into the playoffs with him in the lineup as well. Could have given him a real boost.

Who knows what his final years will look like or how Hall voters look at players down the road, but it would really cool if he makes it in. I think him playing in Milwaukee and a suspect back make it a tad unlikely, though.
