POR Gets: Harrison Barnes, Kevin Huerter, Chris Duarte, 2027 or 2028 SAC 1st (Top 4 Protected - conveys 2 years after 1st to ATL), & 2029 or 2030 SAC 1st (Top 4 protected - conveys 4 years after 1st to ATL)
POR Gives: Jerami Grant, Matisse Thybulle, & Robert Williams
Why for POR? The Blazers clear a lot of long term salary and move off of their “win now” vets to lean into their rebuild further and tank harder for the loaded 2025 draft class. In exchange, they get two very lightly protected 1sts that are 3-4 years and 5-6 years out (which could be very handy when guys like Sharpe, Henderson, Avdija, Clingan, Carrington, etc. are all on new deals). It’s worth noting that Fox, Ellis, & Murray will be FAs after the 2025-26 season which could make that 2027 or 2028 1st interesting and that Sabonis, Grant, & Monk will be FAs after the 2027-28 season which could make that 2029 or 2030 1st interesting as well.

Why for SAC? I think it’s apparent that the Kings need another go-to scorer to go along with Fox and Monk. We’re hopeful that Murray can grow into that type of player but he’s not there yet. Grant gives the Kings that 3rd go-to scorer allowing Murray and Sabonis to fill those secondary scoring roles. Not only is Grant an efficient go-to scorer but his usage isn’t very high which still gives space for Murray to grow offensively and still allows Sabonis to play that ideal facilitator role. On top of him being a low usage, go-to scorer he also is a great shooter allowing the Kings to continue to space the floor for Fox and Sabonis. Defensively, Grant has much better length than Barnes (something the Kings desperately need) and is likely an upgrade defensively over Barnes. We also get an elite POA defensive wing who is decent from 3 and an elite (albeit injury prone) rim protecting backup C who would also be a great lob threat for Monk in the 2nd unit. In general, the Kings would have a real opportunity to become a great defensive team with a plethora of good defenders (Fox, Ellis, Carter, Thybulle, Murray, Grant, & Williams) while at the same time bolstering their offense with another go-to scoring threat in Grant.

With the recent contracts of Naji, DJJ, Kyle Anderson, safe to say Thybulle is at the best neutral but more than likely slight negative.

But man 53 million a year for Grant, Williams, Thybulle looks really rough.

Sharpe is a nice young player, but tough to produce at that level with so many shots going to Grant/Simons.

Both need to go.

I don't understand it for Sacramento. Does this vault you into the Top-4 in the West in the next 3 years before Grant and Sabonis decline? I don't see it. Then why give up picks into the next decade and destroy all your flexibility?

Only one team wins the championship each year. The Kings aren't going to win one with Fox/Sabonis as your 1/2. Just enjoy your very fun team for the next five years. Hope Murray develops into a star. Hope some superstar demands a trade and you have a ton of picks you can move. But don't throw away your assets through 2030 for a better 3rd option.

It is about in line with other contracts going out this summer. Magic just signed KCP, Isaac, and Mo Wagner to about $50M per year.

Hartenstein just $29 per year for going 8ppg/8rpg. Just for additional perspective, not that he is directly comparable to anybody in this thread.
