Free agent F PJ Dozier has agreed on a one-year deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves, sources tell ESPN. Dozier returns from a season in Europe after a torn ACL with Nuggets in late 2021 caused him to again make his case for an NBA contract.

How about that? There is our PG and he has nice size.

Celtics Two-Way Player PJ Dozier Has Evolved Into Being An Elite G League Point Guard
With Boston's G League team in 2019:
While he’s technically in the same position that he was during the prior season, Dozier has looked like a different player with the Maine Red Claws than with the OKC Blue. That fact is evident by how he’s averaging 21.3 points, 7 rebounds, 6.6 assists and 1.3 steals on 46% from the field and 32% from beyond the arc on 5.3 attempts per game. With Maine, he’s currently averaging a career-high in points, rebounds and assists per game.
Among the categories where he’s made strides, Dozier’s progression as a passer is definitely the most glaring. While he showed flashes of having solid passing skills during his time at South Carolina and with the OKC Blue, those traits have taken a huge spotlight since he’s joined the Red Claws. His potential as a lead distributor was seen from the start of the season as he averaged 5.6 assists per game in November. During that month, he had some big facilitating games as he had 9 assists in a November 4th game against the Blue Coats and 11 assists on November 29th against the Windy City Bulls."

"PJ Dozier Signing With Timberwolves

The Timberwolves have reached an agreement with free agent guard PJ Dozier, The Athletic’s Jon Krawczynski reports (Twitter link). The contract will be for one year, per Krawczysnki, and figures to be worth the minimum, given Minnesota’s cap limitations.
Dozier is a six-year NBA veteran who holds career averages of 5.7 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game. He has spent the majority of his career in Denver, playing 97 of his 121 career games for the team and overlapping with former Nuggets president of basketball operations Tim Connelly, who now runs the Wolves’ front office.
Dozier played well as a reserve for the Nuggets in 2020/21, averaging 7.7 PPG in 21.8 MPG across 50 games. However, he suffered a torn ACL the following season and was subsequently traded and waived. He last played for Sacramento in ’22/23, but only appeared in 16 games before heading to play with Partizan Belgrade, where he averaged 9.2 PPG last season.
Dozier was actually with the Wolves for training camp in 2022, but ultimately didn’t make the team. Before signing his 10-day contracts with Sacramento in ’22/23, he spent the majority of the year playing for the Iowa Wolves, Minnesota’s G League affiliate.
After tearing his ACL, Dozier’s camp kept in touch with Connelly, who remains high on the 27-year-old guard, Krawczynski reports (Twitter link).
According to The Star Tribune’s Chris Hine, Dozier’s deal is for a 15-man roster spot (Twitter link). After reportedly coming to an agreement with sharpshooter Joe Ingles earlier Wednesday, the Timberwolves are up to 14 standard contracts.

It does in Serbian.Klomp wrote:winforlose wrote:Nick K wrote:If Conley goes down, we're in trouble at PG depth. Who do we get?
I was kind of looking at Dennis Smith Jr.. He can't shoot worth a lick but he can get to the basket and defend. We'd have to sign him for the vet league minimum which is around 2.8 mil.
OR, do they go with someone they know Daishen Nix. He's a pretty good player who can handle the ball and dish. Decent offensive game too and he's young. Maybe that's the best option all the way around? He could be on a 2-way again. I think we have one spot left?
What do you all think?
I got four letters for you. Starts with J, ends in C, and in between is something that people sometimes call their mothers.
Ingles doesn't end in C though?

What makes it worse is we use KA as Point Forward play maker often and he is gone also. In summary, we lose 4 play makers this summer. KA the PF, JMaC the too short, Morris the Obvious Choice, and Moore Jr the NBA Not Ready.

I really don't think we will miss any of the guys who have moved on. Not even KA.

KA being gone is addition by subtraction. It is the best move the Wolves have made in a while. The upside to not signing him and trading him first opportunity is Finch cannot **** around and play or try to keep him. The other two might hurt more than you realize.

I don't miss KA either if we have a backup PG. I can't think of any 19 year old rookie PG that can play productive minutes.

Re: Who do we get as a reserve PG?
PJ Dozier is not a PG.
He's a wing who can defend and a career 30% 3 point shooter.
This is just TC signing someone he is familiar with.
If we were signing a defense minded 6'5" guy who can't shoot we could have signed Kilian Hayes who is at least a PG.
It's stupid and dangerous not to have a 3rd when your starter is going to be 37 and your backup is a 19 year old who came off the bench in college. And the next best option is NAW who is lucky if he doesn't get his pocket picked bringing it up the court.
Now if Mike gets hurt TC is going to have to go to ownership and beg for 12 more million just to sign a backup for the minimum.

Or worse, trade a core player to get one. TC blew it.

Dillingham replaces McLaughlin and Morris (and Moore I guess, not sure why he's included)
Ingles replaces Anderson

Re: Who do we get as a reserve PG?
Just 5 months ago at the trade deadline we were all clamoring for TC to add another PG.
Back in that boat again, going to miss break glass in case of emergency Jmac.
I really hope RD is great, but even if he is I don't like our depth at the 1 and we are overloaded on the wing again.
Maybe we will sign a really great developmental PG with our 3rd 2-way contract.
We already had a PJ Dozier type player with Jaylen Clarke on a 2 way contract.
Scratching my head at the signing. Guy was on our G-League team just a couple years ago.

Probably about giving these kids at the end of the bench some competition. If Jaylen can't beat out PJ then he was never going to be an asset. If Minnot can't take a step it might be time to move on.
From a fundamental standpoint it is better for a man to have nothing but be under the protection of Jesus Christ than for him to have everything he could ever want yet be completely without.

I don't see the similarity. Even so, why is more than one of something a bad thing?

Defense minded poor shooting 6'5 wings.
Roster balance. See thread title.
I just think we are too overstocked at wing now which may cause depth issues at PG.
Little thin at PF too if Miller isn't ready for meaningful minutes.
But TC may surprise me yet.

Agree at PG, disagree about PF. Garza, Minott, Ingles, Miller, and Ant can all do it. Plus I do believe Miller will get meaningful minutes one way or the other. You don’t build the way are building to make him wait another year. You build this way to throw him into the deep end and trust that Ant and the others won’t let the team drown, even if Miller does.

Instead of just quoting me on a direct response, go back and look at what I was responding to. It was joke. If you still don’t get it, I promise to explain it. I promise it one way or the other it will make sense to you

Minnot should be gone unless they end up trading JMcD, Naz, Towns or Gobert. He is behind Ingles, Miller and Luka on the forward depth chart.

I don’t think he plays the same position as Garza, and I’m not sure he is or will be behind Miller on the depth chart.
