But across the river in Brooklyn, if the cost is just Simmons expiring contract and minor assets, why not

Because the Blazers want to accumulate assets. Ayton has a chance to improve his stock so even after drafting Clingan, I think the Blazers still value Ayton more than just a salary dump.

They might. And I probably wouldn’t look to move Ayton if I were Portland because I doubt his stock will get much lower.

I Simons is at the apex of his value at 25 years old with 2 years remaining in his contract. I also think now is a good time to trade Grant.

Agreed, good time to move Grant and Simons to free up minutes for the young guys who need them. Thybulle can go too. However, gotta couple good reasons not to trade Ayton yet: 1: Bring Clingan along slowly and he is NOT a high minute guy yet 2: Let Ayton rebuild value hopefully, he played really well last part of the season. And the other good thing about the Brogdon/Deni trade is also got POR 4 mil under the tax so no pressure to do any trade
