If they don’t get either player it won’t be from a lack of effort. Both those guys are on rookie deals that include their Full Bird Rights. Plus they’ve shown they can play 20+ minutes a night as a rim protector.

Id be happy with either of them but doubt its going to work

We got to see. The FO knows what they are doing and they are motivated to get things done.

Precious might be the best PF free agent left on the board, and lowkey the Knicks should see if they can S&T him to another team for a TPE and some second rounders. :dontknow:

It seems like it will be so much easier to find a Duce replacement in free agency than a C capable of being a 30 MPG guy. Therefore, trading Duce for a C like Kessler seems to make the most sense.

Fultz would be trading Duces shooting for playmaking while keeping the defense

Lowry/Pat Bev/Dinwiddie give you the shooting/defense combo

I don’t want to go the DSJ route.

I kind of feel like the ideal way to close out the offseason is:
1) Sign Fultz to the full taxpayer on a 1+1 (2nd year team option)
2) trade Duce for Kessler straight up
3) resign Precious to a 1+1 (2nd year team option) deal for the highest dollar amount that leaves a vet min slot open under the 2nd apron

Brunson/Fultz/Kolek
Bridges/DDV/McCuller
OG/Hart/Dadiet
Randle/Precious
Robinson/Kessler/Sims

That roster is very deep, and I love having the extra rim protector and ball handler off the bench

Your also set up with some moveable deals for flexibility over the next 2 years.

Precious as insurance for Mitch/Randle is perfect

Precious as the backup who will need to play real regular season minutes is not

Keith Smith thinks the Rockets might be a cap-spaced team next season when FVV salary can leave the books (TO) because they just used the BAE (cap-spaced teams don't have BAE)

If it's true, they probably will get rid of Steven Adams sooner rather than later. He has an interesting salary (12,6M).

I don't know if it's a creative way to get him now. But he can be a target for the trade deadline.

we definitely need a backup 7 footer who can play up to 20-25 minutes when needed but precious helps mitigate that need (meaning we don't need someone kessler-level to fill the role)

Would need to sign Precious to a 14.4mm contract plus the full taxpayer MLE at 5.4mm to create the salary slot (Precious would have BYC limitations and only 50% of his salary would count for trade purposes next year). Most likely not realistic.

Could see Adams as a potential buy out guy at the deadline.

The Precious BYC restrictions are applied now. But if we re-sign Precious, I think we can trade him in January/February without any restrictions.

Begley is by far the most tuned in.

By structuring the Bridges trade masterfully we are still under the 1st Apron and can use the 5M MLE on possibly Precious (or a backup vet savvy PG). Also sounds like Walker Kessler has a shot to be a Knick.

Utah had Dadiet in for a workout and apparently like him quite a bit, McBride is potentially a good fit there too. I am not saying send both these guys out but it shows we have pieces that Utah should in theory want in return for Kessler.

I agree, we need to get this done today. Hes a very capable backup 4/5 and completes the lineup for now. We can worry about aquiring a center during the season

Is his salary less than the Full MLE. If so yes, definitely, but I don’t think the FO wants to wait. If Mitch misses even 20 games this season things could get real bad, real quick due to both how hard the division is as well as how competitive the conference is. The Knicks are going to want to be a top seed again for home court advantage purposes.

Honestly the fact it hasn’t happened already potentially says a lot. I still think Precious real value would be if they could S&T him to another team for either a TPE or even better a second round pick. I don’t know if they really want to use his bird rights to sign him. Diop, if healthy might be a better backup 4, and precious is far from an ideal Thibs center.

Its tough to find a team that is willing to give picks to get Precious.

The team will be hard-capped at first apron to accept him in a sign-and-trade deal. So, you can remove most contending teams.

On the other hand, tanking teams can get Precious using the cap space or the full MLE. They don't need a sign-and-trade deal.

We have to find a team that does not have cap space and already has used the Full MLE. And the same time the team is ok to become hard-capped at the first apron for the whole season.

Mitch seems to miss most games during every third season which was last season.
He could play more than 60 games.

Once we got another center, I started to notice Mitch always hurt, we were use to always waiting for him to get healthy we didn’t care because we sucked.
