Re: An early summer 2024 thread
Hart battled against Giles that year. I wonder if they bring someone else in to go against Jones or if it’s up to him to show something or not? I know Batum will play some 5 but I’d feel better with a 3rd center.

Oops my bad. Thought I was editing it into my last post.
Hope he makes it somewhere but hopefully this is the end of his time with us.

I don't like utilizing a roster spot for Christie, but makes me feel like a consolidation trade is being worked on.

Wonder what a new contract for Zubac looks like? Considering what Hartenstein just got from OKC.

Assuming a 2 year deal, I would want Demar in the right trade. I think it's a lower ceiling but high floor stand-in for PG. Much lower risk than say Zach Lavine too.

extend no one. Let them compete this year to earn a pay raise. Just because you can extend someone doesnt mean you just do it.

NO thanks. Clippers just seem desperate at this point. Demar doesnt make us better. Run the squad we have. Stay below the cap threshold and see how we look at the trade deadline. teams get desperate to move players come trade deadline.

Re: An early summer 2024 thread
Clippers have put together some talent. From an offensive flow perspective though, there will definitely be some frustration for us as fans with a team that doesn't have any movement shooters or big man playmaking.
Those are two things that really help with adding flow to an offense. Of course you can still achieve similar effectiveness without it, it's just not as "pretty".
There will definitely be some coaching criticism about the offense and its flow that will actually be more about the things they simply don't have on the roster than about what the coaching wants.

Re: An early summer 2024 thread
Paul Reed is being waived by the Sixers to make room for Caleb Martin. I’d take a flyer on him for sure.
A trade is most certainly coming. If I count right we have 16 players under contract. Kai Jones is 2-way eligible but I assume he’d make the team if he impresses. Or if another center does so.
Still need a PF and some scoring. Some of that could be addressed through trade so we’ll see.
Clippers will want to lock him up but I can see him signing another team friendly extension.

DeRozan, I like his game a lot, he has evolved since he went to the Spurs as a passer and really showed he is a consistently good off-ball defender, and above-average rebounder; but I still believe its critical that the team have someone with more overall size than a pure SF or big SG, at power foward, to be with Harden/DeRozan/Kawhi and Zubac.
OKC, Minnesota, Denver, Dallas in the least are going to be the teams deep in the playoffs to get past to and in the WCF, and i lean towards there being a disadvantage over a series with Zubac and essentially four wing players. DJJ probably won't be sustainable there past smaller stretches of a game. DJJ is a big SF that can play PF when it works, not primarily. Batum, I don't know, he has the capability in bursts, but I'd lean towards no over a whole series against any of those teams primary front-courts. Never know, though.. he is certainly resourceful and cagey.
Agreed on Paul Reed.. supposedly had a disppointing playoffs, but he brings what the team needs at PF, and then even maybe a bit more offensively. Still on the younger side as well at 25. I believe he's more of a true PF than a center, but could play that if going smaller. Would fall into the "second-chance" and cast-off approach the team has kind of been taking... I'd imagine he would start if he got signed.
Also definitely expect some kind of trade, at least one. Probably two, though.
The Playoffs don't care about your Analytics

The best ability is availability. DeRozan is a minutes monster (and efficient, if limited without the reliable 3 pointer).
Want Paul Reed.

Re: An early summer 2024 thread
Spurs clearing up more cap space and DDR meeting the Kings this weekend seems like that’s headed to a done deal.
Wouldn’t be a terrible cheap option depending on how all else plays out.
Clippers were supposedly interested.

I knew everything wasn’t going to be wrapped up in one day but I really hate when one deal holds it all up.
Another low risk option??

Re: An early summer 2024 thread
There just aren't enough quality PFs to go around. Philly just signed 6'5" SF/PF Caleb Martin for 4 yr/$32M, who reportedly [and if so, mysteriously] turned down a 5 yr/$65M package from the Heat.
Caleb is expected to start--leaving only 6'7" Kelly Oubre Jr to handle the 4--while part-time PFs 6'6" KJ Martin and 6'9" fan favorite "Basketball Paul" Reed are being given the gate.
BTW, Basketball Paul never really stuck at PF, and at backup center, recorded an incredible and [unplayable] minus-50 [!] per 100 possessions in the 6-game first round loss to the Knicks. As Philly fan too, to me the guy just doesn't seem to get it. Although a former G-League MVP and somewhat serviceable scrub, the NBA game goes by just too fast for him. Besides, we've already raided Nick Nurse's doghouse for Mo Bamba.
