Simone Fontecchio S&T to Sixers

Post#1 » by PhillyFan11 » Fri Jul 5, 2024 11:10 pm

Fontecchio signs for 2/20 with 2nd year being a player option

Pistons trade him to Sixers for Paul Reed + ‘2nd in ‘27, ‘29, and ‘31

Pistons last regime traded 1 2nd for Fontecchio at the deadline and the new regime has since added Tobias Harris, THJ and Ron Holland on top of Isiah Stewart and Asur Thompson already on board. Moving on from Fontecchio for some value and a playable backup C makes sense.

Sixers get 1 of the few affordable F’s that fit into their lineup available.

This would be a really good series of transactions for Detroit, ending up with more assets than they sent and a center who is actually worth assets himself. Love it for Philly, too. Fontecchio can start without hurting you or be a very good bench player.

Most Pistons fans will go nuts at the thought of this trade because we tend to overvalue the players from our 14 win team.

With that said, Tech fits what the Sixers need, Reed does not, and Detroit can always find another shooter at the moment. So take the three second rounders and look to deal Reed at the deadline for more assets…..

This would hard cap Philly' at the 1st apron, which is a non-starter.

not all 2nds have the same value. we traded #32, there's a huge chance all those 3 will be 45+ 2nds.

I'd rather extend Fontecchio for 3 years than break him into minor pieces.

He was good for Detroit, he shot 42,6% from 3 and had a 63% TS, he was a net negative on defense (but not a disaster), but he was an amazing offensive player and he enjoyed playing with Cade. Fontecchio will be back.

Would it if Fontecchio’s first year salary was exactly Reed’s?

Yes If you receive a sign and trade you are hardcapped

I like the framework, but as others have said Fontecchio was good for us and we need above average shooters in the worst way. Those three second rounders are nice to have in the pot but at this stage it's more important to surround Cade and our young core with spacing.

I’d definitely rather keep Tech.

The value isn’t terrible or anything but you’re asking the worst shooting team in the league to give up its best shooter. No thanks.

Don’t sign and trades need to be 3 years minimum?

Fontechio was part of our hottest stretch of the year. We went 4-11

Not only do I think Detroit wants to keep Fontecchio, I don't think he's signing a 2 year, 20M deal, unless that is per year.

Yup. Unless I missed something, I sincerely doubt Tek even glances at that contract.

We don’t need a center, either, unless we’re trading Stew for real value. We need a third stringer, maybe, but not Reed. Duren and Stew take all the center minutes. Stew also gets some at the 4 behind Tobias. What we actually have too much of is wings — Ausar and Holland (sadly too similar, but I doubt we trade one of them), Fontecchio, THJ, and Ivey or Sasser (three guys aren’t getting real minutes at PG).

I think there's a good chance the Sixers will be able to sign a better (or better fitting) player with their remaining cap, with the bonus of keeping those picks and not hard capping themselves.

Additionally, I think the Pistons are better off keeping their shooter on a team starved for shooting.

What we really don't need is a center who's 6'9! Heck, Fontecchio is 6'8. Pistons are getting less starved for shooting every day, but Tek is still part of that puzzle. He showed good chemistry with Cade and I'd like to keep him around. Reed and seconds isn't anything to write home about.

Sounds like we could just sign Reed if we wanted him anyway (though I'd still prefer someone 6'11+ for a third center).
