I don’t think I’ve heard anyone ask that specific question before! I don’t think so, but I’m not sure.
I don't think they should be able to trade a pick swap. Changing which team you're pick swapping with probably isn't allowed.
It gets complicated.
San Antonio could trade it away again in an "X team gets best of these 4 picks" scenario".
However, San Antonio would have to swap their own pick out with the team that held the best pick first in that scenario, if that team were Minnesota or Dallas.
So If we lost it, we'd end up with San Antonio's pick, X team would end up with ours, and SA would end up with X team's.
Then Dallas would keep theirs.
They would functionally be swapping with us first, then swapping with X team, since if they exercise a swap with MN or Dallas, they have to give that team their own pick.
They
could technically guarantee us the 2nd best of the SA/Dallas/MN picks in the trade too, if we start out with the worst of those 3 picks, effectively exercising (or not exercising) the swap with Dallas first and then the swap with us.
The scenario would have to be something with the teams in this order (for example):
MN pick 2, DAL pick 3, SA pick 4.
However, they didn't HAVE TO do that in the trade with us.
We would have to see the details.
I would lean towards the idea that they did though, and we are guaranteed the better of SA/DAL if we lose our pick, as it costs San Antonio absolutely nothing extra to do that for us.
The language would read: San Antonio has the right to swap out the better of their own 2030 1st round pick and Dallas's 2030 1st round pick for Minnesota's own 2030 1st round pick, top 1 protected"
They can't give Dallas our pick if Dallas has the worst out of the 3 picks though.
