I guess he really wanted to come over and the Knicks said "OK, but it'll cost ya".
They said the Knicks paid $850k to buyout his contract overseas so they kind of paid 100 percent in a way. It's a good way for management to save some of the money that counts towards the books. Other than that, dunno what other perks the Knicks have offered for the young man. Shows his commitment though, he gets to be in NY now instead of being stashed overseas.
