The USMNT is still a significant step below the elite of world football, obviously. But this isn't the same team that scrapped it's way through games a decade ago. This team has some quality talent starting for really good club teams in Europe. Unfortunately, they're managed by a guy who prioritizes good vibes over great tactics.

I can't judge them too harshly in this Copa America after Weah's red card and Turner's injury **** them against Panama. Perhaps a better team with better tactics could have parked the bus and stolen a point. And maybe that's where you point to Berhalter. But I didn't expect them to beat a really good Uruguay team in any event, so once Panama beat them, it was obvious where this was headed.

My dream hire for them would be Jurgen Klopp, but I think he's hoping the Germany job will open up before 2026. Which is definitely possible with Nagelsmann's track record for wearing out his welcome with elite talent.

Not that we would really ever come close with this group barring flukey circumstances, but we can't not qualify for the WC b/c were hosting it.

Found out yesterday that my boss is the kid of a comedy legend I have always loved. Still geeking out.

Anyways, USMNT getting knocked out rests on Weah. He doesn’t get a red we beat Panama.

Maybe we do maybe we don't, but GGG is so damn easy on the team and it shows. Theres a reason all those guys like him. Get rid of his ass finally once and for all, the fact they brought him back after the last WC was shameful.

It's weird to me that so many talented players are ok being below average. GGG needed to go long ago.

I don't think we do. They are performing well on their club teams in much better leagues. That has to be worth something.

I was going to say I didn't think beloved Aussie Tom Cardy is that old.

Anyone have a pork belly banh mi recipe they swear by? As much as I love a couple places here in town that make delicious versions, I think it's well past time to make my own.

I always sous vide my pork belly, because it's easy and comes out like butter.

I ended up dry-brining it in a mix of spices for a night, and then slow roasted it yesterday afternoon in a marinade. It would have been awesome (it smelled incredible) but the pork belly slab I bought was literally 98% fat. I know it's obviously a super fatty cut of meat, but there was just no meat there.

It was a bummer last night to eat because everything else was great. I made homemade baguettes, homemade aioli, julienned and pickled and some veggies. The bread especially was some of the best I've made.

But today over lunch I picked up some sliced pork loin from Aldi. Went home and made a quick marinade and popped it into the fridge. Just got done enjoying a pan fried pork loin banh mi. It's going in the Recipe Notes file. Very delicious.

The fat is really what makes it great. Problem is if it doesn't render properly, you get... meh, instead of some kind of amazing bacon flavored marshmallow with crispy bits on the outside.

I get that, but you know how there's still layers of meat in pork belly?

What I bought had no meat. It was literally five pounds of fat.

Oh, I know.

That's just... sounds like a bad butcher sold you the fat cap off a pork belly.

Read on Twitter

At a Peacock programming preview attended by The A.V. Club on Thursday, Thompson opened the event by teasing the celebrities that will be involved in the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics, including Kelly Clarkson, Jimmy Fallon, Alex Cooper of the “Call Her Daddy” podcast, and Kevin Hart and Thompson himself, who will be hosting an Olympic Highlights show together for Peacock.

NBC consistently ruins the Olympic experience. It's a tale as old as...them having TV rights.

ETA: My (least) favorite part is when they don't air events live and then will put the final up on YouTube immediately after it's completion with the thumbnail and title spoiling who won.
