George doesn't play a lick of defense anymore, so it comes down to threes, is hitting threes on a better percentage is worth more than twice the contract he is being paid by the Sixers? Seems he hustled Morey and got his bag, damn.

Defense, rebounding & outside shooting is definitely not as good as PG. But I'll the 125+ mil in savings no problem. More durable, clutch...and better mid range.

Did y'all forget there's 2 sides to ball?
Not only can PG13 actually hit a 3 on high volume and efficiency (38.5% career versus 29.6%), he's actually, despite the slight decline, still a plus defender. Demar operates heavily in the mid range and doesn't space the floor. He's not nearly as plug-and-play as PG13 into any team.

Also, did y'all forget how bad Demar was in the playoffs? He was basically shipped out of Toronto despite being a fan favourite because he'd consistently disappear in the playoffs. Since then, he's only been to the playoffs once with SA (where he played well), and the once with CHI (which he shouldn't have made...if the entire Raptors team didn't fold to his daughter screaming during their free throws). He shot 41% in that CHI PO series, and was 0% from 3 in his last 3 PO series.

It's excruiatingly difficult to build a contender with a wing who doesn't even attempt 3's.

With a 140 mil difference, I take DeRozan every day. It’s sad that he isn’t the best fit in Sacramento, but he is a baller. If I wanted to contend, I’d make him a point guard.

It's not your money, who cares.
PG13 is the better player and gets them that much closer to a finals appearance. Derozan doesn't. I don't care if I save a bunch of money if the player I'm getting doesn't help compete with Embiid's limited prime. PHI had the money to spend, nobody else could've given out that type of deal. PHI chose PG13 over Derozan because he fits better with Embiid. Derozan didn't get a huge deal because Front Offices know that he's not the tpe of player that fits in their system...Sacramento on the other hand is just desperate to add any sort of star talent to their roster, knowing they never sign any prime free agents.

We all know that there are two sides you play on the court! However, the best ability is availability! DeMar is more dependable, reliable and stays healthy! PG fits better with Embiid because he can have someone like PG sit next to him while they watch the 76ers get crushed in the playoffs! Maybe they can play Dominoes in the sideline! P George does not stay healthy and worse yet he never shows up in the playoffs! Look at what he did in that series against Dallas which is a poor defensive team! P George is good at playing the invisible man!

The spurs getting a pick swap to have harrison Barnes is a bit crazy barnes is still a good player and has a good contract. Can defend and can shoot. I think a team may enquire how to get barnes.

It is not our money... but building a complete roster requires you to take money into account.

PHI is spending $147m on Embiid, PG13 and Maxey. Those three players missed a total of 63 games last season. The other two starters in PHI will be role players and that will be highlighted when one or more their big(ish) three sit due to injury or load management.

SAC is spending $147m on Sabonis, Fox, DeRozan, Monk, Huerter and Murray. Those 6 players missed a combined 44 games. SAC is way deeper and far more durable. They have starting quality players coming off the bench and have zero players requiring load management... and that starts with not overpaying injury prone players.

Aside from that, I think DeMar is a better fit than PG. He doesn't space the floor, but everyone around him can. SAC needed another playmaker to take pressure off of Fox and I'm sure those guys will be staggered. It will give Sabonis more opportunity to move from the high-post to the low-post and out to the corner. Hopefully his assertiveness rubs off on Sabonis! I'm not sure Mike Brown is the ideal coach for this roster, but I do think DeMar will open things up for them.

hyberx wrote:Wrong. There are 3 sides to the ball: the bench side where PG looked at the court, defending nobody and scoring none. His last 5 years of availability (64%) are worse than Anthony Davis (66%), whose nickname is Street Clothes. You don't build squat with a guy who spends more than 1/3 of the time riding the bench. No way he is worth that much more money than DeRozen got.

To be fair, PG just played the most games (74) since he was in OKC 5 years ago
He also had the best shooting numbers in every category: FG .471 3P .413 FT .907

And yes, he's behind AD in that 5 year span, but he's played more than Steph, KD, Beal, Kawhi, Kyrie, and Klay

The story shouldn't be about PG13 not playing -- because no one his age plays anymore.
This is more a rare feat by Derozan than an indictment of George.

Here's the proof:

There are 23 active players in their 30s who have 3+ all star selections

Only 2 of them (DeRozan and Gobert) averaged >70 games played over the past 5 seasons.
Only 2 more managed to even play 70+ games more than once (Russ + CP3)

No one else on the list played >69 games more than once in the past 5 years

Includes all these 3+ AS guys now in their 30s:

Bron
Lowry
Horford
Steph
Love
KD
DRose
Harden
Butler
Klay
Dray
PG13
Dame
Kawhi
Middleton
Kyrie
AD
Beal
Embiid

(plenty of younger guys don't play either: Greek is not 30 yet & just played 73 games -- but the first time in 5 years he broke the 70 barrier)
