Re: Trades and Transactions thread cont - post Mikal trade
Jericho is absolutely terrible. Soft as hell with no skill. Not young anymore and going into his 4th year without any real improvement. Should seriously be cut as he could barely even play when our frontline was all injured.
Precious is better than Jericho, but that’s not saying much. He’s smaller and is a definitive tweener stuck between a 4 and 5. Fans overrate him because he had a few good games when he had to play 40 mpg, but there’s a reason our team sputtered with him starting and only got back on track once Deuce started over him. Nobody has offered him much money yet because he’s bleh.
I assume we dont want to unload all of our remaining assets for Kessler and will just hope somebody else shakes loose later, but we aren’t serious as a team if Precious or god forbid Jericho are playing 20 mpg, if not outright starting once Mitch misses games, and our only backup centers.
Hukporti doesn’t have much competition if he’s any good.

There's a ceiling on this team then, it's that simple. The Warriors don't win titles without Draymond pulling the opposing center away from the rim, the Bucks never win a title if Brook Lopez is camped in the paint clogging driving lanes for Giannis. It's not 1994 anymore, you're hurting your own team in the long run if you aren't versatile. This is why we haven't seen much of Randle at the 5, despite the fact that should be a very real option against a lot of teams.
Well if we don't land Kessler or Richards....Thibs may have little choice not to play Randle at some 5.
Randle
OG
BRIDGES
Hart/Divo
BRUNSON
THATS a fireball lineup right there. All 5 spots can hit the 3.

The ideal is to get 1 of Kessler or Richards and one vet backup pure ballhandling 1 until Kolek is ready.

You need to look at the rotation and approximate minutes distribution to get a better feel here:
Kessler or Richards (22), Robinson (22), Randle/OG (4)
Randle (30), Bridges (5), OG(5), Hart (8)
OG(25), Bridges (12), Hart (11)
Bridges(15), DDV(25), Hart(8)
Brunson (32), DSJ / Lowry (16)
Reserve: Sims, McBride or Dadiet (1 likely traded), Rokas?, Hukporti, McCullers
-Hart, Bridges and OG getting minutes at multiple positions between 2,3 and 4 and all 3 playing elite level defense.
-Randle being the bully PF and low post guy at the 4.
-A high level rim protecting Center like Kessler playing alongside Mitchell Robinson
Thibs would now have multiple players that can execute his system at a high level and greater depth on the roster than ever before.

Richards and Rokas to round things out is fine too.
I think Charlotte would be willing to play ball.

I don't know.
Charlotte has a team that can grab a play-in spot.
And they need Richards because Mark Williams is injury prone and Richards is their only center right now.

Damn. iHart leaving has Knick fans looking under each rock for a sh*tty euro center with more than 2 syllables in their name.

Nick Richards is just mediocre in every way from what I see though. He’s not a championship rotation player, or a starter for half a season when Mitch gets hurt again. He’s a decent backup center, but would still probably cost us Deuce or more picks than you think. He’s worth more than two late 2nd rounders like many of you been suggesting.
From where Im sitting, we have a legit championship window these next few years, but have a glaring hole at center, with or without Mitch. If Kessler can be had with Deuce (or Deuce traded for a 1st), and some combo of our remaining swaps/protected 1sts then I am making that deal.
Kessler is elite at many areas we need, unlike Richards, and can grow into our starter in 1-2 seasons. We arent going to be able to get anybody better, younger, and who fits our requirements in a C better than him in the next couple years, so just go all in.

I was thinking I'd miss all those photos of his wife, but nah, after bad games, I can look at pictures of Monica to distract me.
He was not able to do much against Philly and less against Indy, so there's that. I'm only concerned about a sub for Mitch, and sHart $$ is too much to pay for this position.

I havent been keeping up with the news, but Ainge prob wants 2-3 picks/young players, and will just see if Kessler can raise his value this season.
Fact is Isaiah did screw our plans up, at least for the time being. We need a starting quality center, not just a whatever backup.

We found Isaiah off the scrap heap… we can find a comparable replacement, I’m sure.

If we were allowed to pay iShart what he got from OKC, we'd have to deal with someone else we couldn't keep on the team before very long. We really can't afford all our Nova boys, OG, Randle, and 2 starting quality centers. At a bargain rate, he was what we needed. At a full starting center rate, he'd be a luxury (if we could have matched their offer).

He might do a 3+1 with a player option. I believe after the 3rd, he gets that significant bump due to 10 years in service and that's when he goes super max. That's just my guess.

You guys keep underrating Isaiah. He was legit for years before we got him, and was actually at his best on the Clippers/Cavs. He just fell threw the cracks to us. He’d still prob be Mitch’s backup here too if Mitch never got hurt again.
Isaiah was a rarity. His whole journey from going to Germany, being a 2nd rounder, bouncing around the NBA and then getting paid 30 mill a year basically never happens. Pretending we will strike gold again in the next season or two is wishful thinking bro.
We pushed 90% of our chips in. We may as well push in the rest and go for it all now before other powerhouses/Wemby emerge. Grab Kessler or another starting level C. We cannot count on Mitch, Precious/Jericho, Hukporti, etc being enough to win it all, especially with Thibs’ system.

We got Isaiah on the cheap... and he blossomed.
We got Josh Hart on the cheap... and he blossomed.
We got Brunson on the cheap... and he blossomed.
We got DDV on the cheap... and he blossomed.
We got McBride on the cheap... and he blossomed.
See the trend here? When something happens often enough, it's no longer a fluke or accident, and you have to give some credit to our scouts and decision makers and have confidence that they can do it again during this run/window. Maybe it's Kessler or maybe it's someone else. No worries.

Sims is a serviceable emergency center. Great 3rd string.
The reason the we struggled with Precious is because the other starters were iHart and JoshHart so we had 3 guys who can't shoot. Can't have that. Nothing to do really with Precious.

Yeah, dealing with Ainge for Kessler is a non-starter, it's not happening.
