Bulls & Warriors: Vuc and Craig for Looney, Payton, and Moody

Post#1 » by drosestruts » Mon Jul 8, 2024 9:39 pm

Bulls in: Kevon Looney, Gary Payton, and Moses Moody

Warriors in: Nikola Vucevic and Torrey Craig

Why for the Bulls?

All expiring contracts that get them off of the second year of Vuc and opens up playing time for younger players at both the center and forward spots by moving vets in Vuc and Craig. Bulls have made several moves to, for better or worse, get younger. This continues here.

Why for the Warriors?

Add two veteran players at positions of need.

Vuc - should look a lot better playing alongside an All-defense caliber forward rather than 4 guards all the time. Is still a very good rebounder and connective passer. Re-finding his shot would be huge. Helps provide a big, skilled 7' footer to pair with TJD and Post in the, well, post, for big man depth.

Craig - a veteran 3&d player for more defense and shooting depth at the forward spots.

As long as Curry and Green are still in Golden State I imagine they're still interested in being as good as they can be. Just moves to further continue on the path both teams have moved down already this offseason.

I did really want to find a version of this trade that worked while keeping Moody in Golden State, but could not. I also feel like signing of Melton and Hield spelled the end of any chance of him getting much playing time anyway.

Bulls would have to cut someone - could be the non-guranteed Bitim or buyout the recently required Duarte or Payton (as he's 31 and likely doesn't want to be on a young Bulls team)

Bulls depth chart:

White/Ball/Carter
LaVine/Dosunmu/Terry
Giddy/Phillips
Williams/Buzelis
Smith/Looney/Sanogo

Warriors Depth chart:

Curry/Melton
Hield/Wiggins/Podz
Kuminga/Craig
Green/Anderson
Vucevic/TJD/Post

I don't mind this if the Bulls kick in some kind of value for Moody. Or just shrink this down to expirings for Vuc.

A couple seconds would probably get this done for me, assuming we don't make a bigger deal this offseason.

Would sooner do that deal for Brook Lopez than Vuc - and wouldn’t be thrilled about it for Lopez, but at least he provides some interior defense.

A Vuc deal requires the Bulls take Wiggins imo, not the useful expirings

I wasn't sure if the trade was bound to being one where Golden State has to take in less than they send out, which is why I inevitably felt Moody had to be included out of a lack of other options really.

Is Moody's value still due to his age and draft position? On court impact in the year 2024 I'm still giving the edge to Torrey Craig.

Why would the Bucks take this for Lopez though?

If the value of Moody is a few second round picks, I'd love for the Spurs to get involved. As an Arkansas fan, it pains me to see him wasting away on the bench for the Warriors.

Probably wouldn’t unless they need to get under the apron. Break Lopez into smaller expirings

I think that's probably what his trade value is sadly, but I wouldn't trade him for that straight up unless it was part of a bigger deal.

But yeah, I hate seeing Moody get yanked around by Kerr. He's gotten no real opportunity here.

Your depth chart shows that this isn't good for the Bulls. They would still have Williams at the PF which is the opposite of the off season goal, you don't even list Moody or Payton because it would make the overload at guard even more obvious. The front court is ultra thin as it's a stretch to think Phillips would be the backup SF an only the draft loving kids thin Buzelis is going to step into the rotation from the G League.

People who think the Bulls with a current overload at guard should trade2 front court players for 2 guards just aren't thinking.

Wait you don't think Buzelis will be in the rotation this season?

Also where would you start Williams? And if it's at the 3 - who are you benching Coby, Zach, or Giddey?

Good deal for Chicago. Would throw a couple 2nds to seal it.

I would do this from a CHI perspective, maybe throw in a 2nd or two.

I like this for Chicago. And agree that adding a 2nd, maybe one from the DeMar deal, seems reasonable

Good centerpiece trade for both teams. Bulls need to tank so Vucevic no longer needed there.

Love it for the Bulls-I would add the Port 1st to help get it done.
If we could cut/reduce Lavine's salary for 2025-26 somehow, we'd go into next summer with
CWhite
Ayo
JCarter (could hopefully move him too somehow)
PWill
Terry (or we don't pick up his option)
Phillips
Matas
Jalen Smith
our top 6 pick next June

You're looking at $70 million in cap space to play with

Maybe the grizz could step in as a 3rd team . ZW/Konch/Laravia + for a wing.
