So…the kings set a deadline with an offer on the table that didn’t include Keegan Murray, and they still think they can somehow obtain Lauri after acquiring DeRozan?

I think Kuzma would be a good addition for us

I think LM and Kessler will be traded soon even if price will be not too great. The current FO policy is very consistent - to trade anyone who can defend or has too high BBIQ. Any young players have to get the point or to be traded. Flashy snooty ball \hogging is the culture that Jazz FO is consistently and successfully building.

BR just reported that NYC allegedly offered 2x 1sts for Kessler, but Ainge rejected. Anyone here heard anything similar?

Heard something similar but that they were bad firsts and that UTA wants an unprotected pick

I suspected as much. I like Kessler, he wouldnt fit bostons style but I think he has value. Classic ainge though, no doubt trying for an unprotected possible lottery pick for a player who isnt worth it. Those were the days!

Correct, the Washington and Detroit "firsts" the Knicks are holding sound really appealing but are in fact heavily protected and not likely to ever convey as first rounders. They have no other tradable firsts after the Bridges deal.

It sounds as though Golden State is still chasing after Lauri. This has been going on for weeks. Clearly, there must be something to it.

It’s a fool’s errand and big market bias.

Jake Fischer gives it a 10% odds right now.
I also read recently (can't recall where) that Markkanen and his agent are in SLC to hammer out the details of his extension. He would have to sign on August 6th to be eligible to be traded this year. He would probably have to be extended in order to be traded, I would think, otherwise, he is a free agent next summer. The timing is tricky.

However, the sign and trade for Dunn with the Clippers hasn't happened yet, so there must be something holding that up which probably involves other teams and/or players.

Assuming Utah is waiting to clear up the Markky Mark R&E to preserve cap space. The Dunn S&T won’t be completed until after that.

Knicks have nothing to trade except conditional firsts from other teams which likely won't convey. If someone offered 2 real unprotected firsts for Kessler, I imagine it gets done.

As far as Lauri, not many teams can offer the 5 firsts plus a swap plus a 2nd the Knicks gave for Bridges. SAS is the team with the most to deal. OKC has picks too, but the Spurs picks combined with the ATL picks which the Spurs own will be much better.

Swaps are useless unless the Jazz are better than the other team. Good to have, but could turn out to be nothing. GS can only offer 2 firsts and swaps.

Not a Jazz or Pelicans fan but would you guys do Kessler and Sensabaugh for Jordan Hawkins and picks?

GEORGE-HAWKINS-WILLIAMS-HENDRICKS-FILIPOWSKI would be a balanced future. And obviously whatever else you get for trading vets like Sexton, Clarkson, Markanen, etc.

Wojnarowski is reporting that Utah Signed & Traded Kris Dunn to the Clippers
for Russell Westbrook, who will be bought out, a 2nd Round Pick and CASH.

That is funny.

I am not mistaken it will be the second time Westbrook has been bought out by The Jazz. Not sure how many times that happened in NBA history.

So much love for Westbrook coming from the Jazz!

I am trying to understand why the Jazz do this and how much $$$ it cost them to buy out Westbrook AGAIN. From what I could see, the Jazz may receive a 2nd round draft swap in 2030 and some cash from the Clippers. I really don't see much benefit for the Jazz. Would love an explanation

Probably to be nice to Dunn. I'm sure the cash they are getting will help with the buyout. Dunn was leaving regardless, I suspect the Jazz were just doing him a solid.

This is just my take-

Dunn was not going to resign with the Jazz, but instead the Clippers. If Utah were to help make that work out, then they get something out of it, but not a lot.

The Jazz sit at $111.5M team salary for 13 players before this transaction (when Eubanks actually signed).

The salary cap is $141M, so the Jazz are well under that.

The NBA minimum team salary, which the Jazz must meet before the season, is $126.5M (difference of $15M from current team salary).

The Jazz look like they'll extend Markkanen, which will add on an additional $12M-$15M, most likely.

The $4M of Westbrook's salary is most likely completely paid for by the Clippers, but adds to the Jazz team salary.

Adding both Markkanen max extension number and Westbrook contract meets the minimum team salary.

There is still some cap space ($14M), exceptions and roster spots to fill, if desired/needed, before the first day of the season when the team must have 14 players on the roster. The Jazz must have thought that the difference between $14M and $18M cap space was worth a 2nd rd pick swap and to help out Dunn.

It will be interesting to see if the Jazz are able to use that cap space in a trade (doubtful at this stage of the summer), or if they use that last roster spot on a younger player that is available but that they believe still have potential (I have no idea who that would be), or a locker room vet (probably on min contract) to help out the rookies/near rookies develop.

For current trade value purposes, Gambo (who is just used by the Suns to leak whatever they want to leak) says that the Suns would never trade the 2031 Suns pick for Walker Kessler.

I saw this in the past week and I have to ask Joe Lacob (GSW owner) the following. Are the Jazz supposed to just bend over and take whatever GSW offers for Lauri Markkanen so they can have a couple more great years with Steph??? Are the smaller market teams supposed to be the minor league for big market teams (IMO, they are already treated that way in some cases) If the Jazz trade Lauri Markkanen for 2-3 future picks and an average player from GSW, the future draft picks from GSW will most likely be in the 15-25 range, at least for the next 2-3 years. Personally, I am more interested in a potential deal with San Antonio and the picks they have (Atlanta / Chicago). I think Danny Ainge is probably annoying to deal with but he is supposed to get the best possible return for the Jazz.
