Masai Ujiri Says Raptors Discussions With Sasha Vezenkov 'Should Develop' Soon

Toronto Raptors president Masai Ujiri addressed the Sasha Vezenkov situation with the media on Monday. The Raptors acquired Vezenkov from the Sacramento Kings in a trade this offseason.

Ujiri said that he, Raptors GM Bobby Webster, Raptors coach Darko Rajakovic, Vezenkov and his representatives have already talked.

"I think that should develop in the next few days or we’ll see whether it’s a few months," Ujiri said. "We acquired a player in a trade and we feel we have communicated well. We communicated well with the agent and the team before. And so we’ll see how that goes."

Vezenkov reportedly is seeking a return to Greece. The forward has reportedly already agreed to terms with OIympiacos on a new contract. However, the Raptors would first have to waive Vezenkov before he could sign a new contract. Toronto does not seem willing to eat the $6.6 million on Vezenkov's deal for this season.

Sasha: "Hi Raptors, I'm not interesting in playing for you or set my feet on Canadian soil.. but you my previous boss owe me $6.6Million for next season... So instead of wasting each other's time, will you just give me $6.6M and fire me?"

Is this what happens when contract is waived?! I think it's more fair if Sasha gets waived for $0.00, or his new club picks up the tab..

Masai is prolly asking Olympiakos to pay up the $6.6M tab plus monetary compensation or Sasha ain’t playing in Greece

Why should an NBA team to let him double dip on their dime? Do these players think the NBA is an all you can withdraw ATM or something?

He signed a contract so he has to play or at least be part of team activities and games. He can't sign a new deal overseas while under contract with the Raptors. So if he really wants out, the Raptors have the leverage.

He can accept a zero or minimal buyout with his overseas team covering that in his new deal.

Or he can be a d*** and not agree to a buyout and just refuse to play for the Raptors. But that won't bode well for him in the eyes of future teams when it comes time for a new deal.
