Cody Williams had some nice looking buckets between long stretches where he was invisible on the floor.
I thought Cam Spencer had some nice moments, he could have been picked at #52 by POR (would have been nice to have him in summer league with his teammate, Clingan) and signed a 2-way with MEM.
Actually, several 2nd round picks have signed 2-way deals in\around POR picks (40+) that they jettisoned for that all-important cash! Which disproves the whole "POR traded away #40\#52 because of roster space limitations (they have 2 open 2-ways) and players being unwilling to sign 2-way contracts" that POR mouthpieces like Casey Holdahl assured us were the reasons POR jettisoned those picks for essentially nothing.
That sounds like Cody Williams just being Cody Williams lol.
I liked Spencer quite a bit going into the draft. Arguably the best shooter in the class, and a very developed offensive skillset (He just clearly knew where to go on the floor on offense at a level above basically everyone else). I think he is probably a Sam Merrill caliber guy, which is a steal at 52 - whether he can defend well enough to play outside the regular season will be the big sticking point (I dont think he can - but doesnt mean he isnt a valuable bench guy in the regular season).
As for Clingon vs Edey. I liked both, had both in the top 7 or so. My worry is that we chose Clingan for the reasons some have said - he wont demand touches. Well, I dont think anyone on this roster has shown enough to put the draft evaluation in the 'well that guy wont demand touches so he fits'.
I am also unwilling to accept the shooting myth behind Donovan. A 58% FT shooter isnt making 3PT shots in the NBA. Guys that developed a 3 like Marc and Brook were good FT shooters.
That being said, Donovan has unbelievable feel on defense. There is a non-zero chance he is a near Gobert level defender. All advanced metrics show he changed the game defensively in college. So it was a younger guy with a lower floor but a chance to be a game changing defender vs an older guy with a higher floor and the ability to contribute more across the board but without the chance of being a game changing defender (And I dont mean Edey cant be a good defender - just not the same type of upside Clingan has).
