MPJ / Herro Trade Make Any Sense

Post#1 » by Wigginstime » Wed Jul 10, 2024 4:43 pm

These seem to be two players who constantly show up in trades on this board yet trade value struggles for the same reason.

Despite both being young excellent 3pt shooters, their value seems to struggle as both players have been labeled as over paid injury risks. Both players are on contract until 2027.

I understand an additional piece from Miami would be required to make salaries work.

Why for Denver
Get a replacement for KCP where they desperately need a guard who can shoot from 3pt range

Why for Miami
They get additional size without any loss to their 3pt shooting ability.

Kcp a 2 way defensive player. You don’t replace him by trading MPJ for another one way player.

It definitely doesn't make any sense for Denver. I'm not sure it makes sense for Miami either tbh.

Yeah, no way Denver does that. MPJ's a very good rebounder at least.

I think you expand the trade.
Miami sends Herro/Robinson
Denver sends MPJ/Nnaji/Braun

If Herro is coming over, Braun’s time is limited. Also if Miami is moving a guard, they need one to replace the spot.
Denver gets better shooter at all positions for Murray to drive and kick. And for Jokic to pass out. Holmes will have to be ready sooner.

I think this makes it quite a bit worse for Denver and it already didn't work for them positionally. They can't create a hole at a harder position to fill (small forward) to fill a hole elsewhere.

I mean, I get it, but I don't think either team does it. Better the devil you know. I'm not a fan of MPJ. I'm also not a fan of Herro. I think both teams need to find some way to break these guys into smaller, useful contracts

I wonder if Charlotte could be a useful option here? Either as a third team or in a direct trade w/Miami. They've already built a team that can't play defense, so perhaps they'd add Herro and try to play like the Pacers?

Michael Porter Jr would make Miami better. This move would make Denver worse.

Looking at their roster, I'd want Grant Williams and Cody Martin and probably Reggie Jackson as filter. Not sure they'd do it, but that would be my trade from them. I think we could benefit from Williams's toughness, Cody should be obvious (do the same thing with him that we did with Caleb) and Jackson because we need a backup point guard.

Is that too much? I'm never sure how others will value that kind of deal. I'm certain Heat fans will hate it.

I think it is fine as long as Charlotte is interested. Who knows if they would or wouldn't be - they almost certainly shouldn't be (instead they should trade Ball and Bridges) - but if they are committed to Ball as a core piece it might be a good way to maximize him.

That's worse by a mile.
