Our SG options are entirely gross, as you know.

Ivey — defensive sieve, streaky shooter, not there yet as a finisher or passer
THJ — shooter only
Beasley — shooter only
Ausar — bricklaying defensive monster, starting him and Duren is a problem on offense

If Holland can shoot, he might be the best option. Or perhaps Sasser, switching with Cade on defense.

It’s a strange group.

So you think out of 4 non ideal options to start at SG, we are going with the worst by far compared to the other 3.

-If you're going to give Cade the ball and tell everyone else to wait in the corners all game while he spams pick and rolls like Monty did, Beasley should start at SG.
-If you're going to run a dynamic offense with multiple ball-handlers involved, Ivey should start at SG.
-If you want to play any defense at all, Ausar should should start at SG and Stewart should start at C.
-THJ should never start.

There. That was easy.

And if you want Ivey to have any trade value, he needs minutes. I don’t like him much, either, but he has development potential. As do Ausar, Holland, and Sasser (to some extent).

I for sure would start Sasser at the 2nd G spot.

G - Cade Cunningham / Jaden Ivey / Marcus Sasser
G - Marcus Sasser / Tim Hardaway JR / Wendell Moore JR
F - Ausar Thompson / Simone Fontecchio / Malik Beasley
F - Tobias Harris / Isaiah Stewart / Ron Holland
C - Jalen Duren / Paul Reed / Chimezie Metu

Personally I’d prefer seeing what Ivey can do with a head coach that doesn’t have a random grudge with him, Metu isn’t a Piston right now. I really hope that we’re good enough to where Moore isn’t anywhere near the rotation

THJr and Ivey should never start.

Monty didn't have a random grudge with Ivey. He said he was bad on defense and he wasn't wrong. Monty was a terrible coach, but he wasn't wrong about Ivey.

Which is fine to say until you watch Cade and Duren see absolutely zero repercussions for being the 2 lowest effort defenders on the entire roster by a wide margin. We never once saw these guys get pulled from the game despite not giving an ounce of effort on that end of the floor on a nightly basis.

If there are 10 dudes on the roster that are horrendous defenders and only one of them gets singled out?

We were playing good defense early in the season, when Ivey was benched. Then Monty probably lost the locker room and things went down hill. Cade was playing excellent defense the first few games. Ausar was playing DPY level defense and he also went donwhill from there.

Monty was wrong about almost everything. He wasn't wrong about Ivey.

While I agree with that, Monty accepted a job he didn’t want and did nothing to help the young players. If JB can make Ivey acceptable on defense, it’ll be a win

That's on Ivey, not on JB and there is such a long way for him to be acceptable on defense, I would say it's impossible in one season/offseason.

He is THAT clueless, and untill he sit his ass and study the game seriously, he shouldn't start, imo he shouldn't even be getting NBA minutes.

It's you and Monty out on that island thinking you should play Killian Hayes over Ivey.

This narrative you're trying to weave in your mind about how the locker room was lost when Ivey became the starter kinda falls flat when you realize Ivey didn't start his first game until the team was in a 10 game losing streak. The Pistons were 2-19 when Ivey didn't start but somehow you think the chemistry was really clicking until Ivey got more involved

Monty lost the locker room when he told everyone he didn't want to coach this team and he came for the money. Then he coached like he was trying to get fired. One of the more egregious examples being starting Killian Hayes over Ivey, but obviously there were many.

When did I say that? Neither of them should've played at all. Burks and Sasser should've played the 48 SG minutes, even if they were not that great at least they were playable.

You said Monty was right about Ivey. Monty thought Killian was a better option to start than Ivey was. So by saying he was right, you're on that island agreeing with that nonsense.
