McCain looks slow and can’t guard at all but showing decent pg skills. Bona looks okay (defensively anyway) although he got lost at times. I would have like to see Edey vs Bona, but guess no back to backs at summer league anymore.

When I hear the Dudley quote on the previous page, McCain is one rookie who I think of. I'm not watching, but I'm curious how they are using him. If they are having him dominate the ball, that's a mistake. They have their franchise PG and a ball-dominant C. They need guys who will fit in around them, not ball-heavy guys. He reminds me of an eccentric Landry Shamet.

Similarly, it was a mistake to run things last year through Minott during summer league. I don't think that will ever be his role. He needs to watch tape of Gerald Wallace. I hope they use Miller in a Towns/Reid mashup role, because that's the role I've envisioned for him since he was drafted.

McCain reminds me of Tyus Jones but maybe not as good a shooter,at this point anyway.I really thought he would be a better shooter and playmaker (based on how he ended at Duke) than what he has shown in SL thus far.

Even if Summer League is 90% entertainment and 10% informative, the Wolves first game still can't come fast enough.

This should be a much better summer league experience.

Last year, our translatable talent was almost exclusively in the frontcourt. That makes it hard to win in this type of setting. At guard we had Brandon Williams, DJ Carton and Wendell Moore. Both Dillingham and Shannon should immediately be better than both of them, plus having Nix and Clark available off the bench. Hifi is a bucket too, and playing next to bigger guards can help mask any defensive deficiencies.

In the frontcourt, adding Jesse Edwards on a two-way allows us to better structure the lineup. Last summer, Miller was playing C and Minott was at PF. For what I believe the team is looking for from these guys, that made it hard to find things that could translate from summer into training camp. With Edwards at C, they can slide Miller to the Towns/Reid role at PF and Minott can play more like McDaniels at SF.

The only thing I think they should change is to give Hifi the nod over Nix as backup PG. We know a lot more about what Nix is than Hifi. Give Hifi a chance to show you what he can do, and maybe earn a camp invite to challenge Nix for the two way spot. Then again, Hifi’s contract situation with Paris is a variable that I cannot account for.

You keep talking about development of young guys and the importance of continuity, but you are ready to cast aside a 22-year old who entered the league at 19 years old because you know what he is?!

I didn’t say kick him off the roster, I said give Hifi a chance to show the Wolves FO what he is. Nix is a bad distance shooter who played in 1 or 2 games outside of garbage time last year. Being a bad shooter limits his functionality because he cannot play with Rudy (2 non shooter problem.) Also Nix managed 6.4 assists in the G but with 3.7 turnovers. You saw what happened to the Wolves during the high turnover volume games. Maybe Hifi is worse, we don’t know. Maybe Nix is the best backup PG available as a two way, again I don’t know. But, given that Nix already has the contract, and Hifi is leaving the country after summer league, maybe let Hifi prove to you he deserves an exhibit 10 or even a two way.

My guess is if he has an out (or a buyout) in his Paris contract, he likely wouldn't trigger it for anything short of a guaranteed contract.

Maybe. But, if he gets a foot in the door of the NBA and can train with an NBA team for a year while showing off in the G, maybe he gets an NBA contract next year. Depends on what the young man wants.

He's not saying that. He wants to see more of HiFi because we know what Nix can do, basically, and wants more buckets. :D

Do we? Should we not play Miller and Minott in Vegas then "because we know what they can do"?

Miller and Minott are auditioning for a rotation spot. Nix is useful for two things, (frankly he is the GOAT at these things,) Looking excited on TV, and pointing when someone gets dunked on. Beyond that, he is the guy you play when you want and excuse for why the loss wasn’t the main guys fault. Nix is the guy you put on the bench when you cannot get the more interesting guy like Hifi who has actual upside. That said, Nix is at least tall and can play 3rd string defense at a fourth string level. We don’t know much about Hifi, so let’s give him a shot.
