Here's the premise.

Your team can add either Victor Wembanyama or Jayson Tatum for one season and one season only, next year the 2024-25 NBA season. You don't have to give anything up for either, but you can only pick one. The Boston Celtics and San Antonio Spurs are willing to lend them to your team for one year, but after the season they go back to their original team.

The Celtics still have the best back court, a star forward, and an elite rim protector in Porzingis. Add in Wemby’s defense and versatility and they win against the Mavs pretty easily

This is crazy to me. People are saying they expect Wemby to be better than Tatum already next year? That's just wild to me. I don't see it happening so fast. I think people are letting their emotions dictate their choice here a little too much because of how exciting Wemby is as a prospect. Sophomores tend to have some issues too so we'll see about that aspect too. Maybe in 3 or 4 years it'll be true but if I had to pick one player just for this 1 year I'd choose Tatum.

Wemby is also a gamble because I dont know how healthy he will be playing an entire season plus an entire post season through NBA finals. Tatum has proven to be a healthy player for like 7 seasons now. I trust in that already proven consistency.

The biggest reason I'm not going to take Wemby yet. That 2nd year slump is a real thing.

Tatum is a fantastic player. Wemby is the kind of player they change rules to mitigate. Obviously there’s a chance Tatum is better this year but barring injury Wemby will soon be the best player in the league and likely suffer from voter exhaustion in some MVP races before he’s done. If I was betting I’d bet on the inevitable coming true sooner than later, but it’s not a slam dunk for the op question. He just changes the way everyone else on the way everyone on the floor behaves more than we’ve seen.

Would you be surprised if he made a huge leap in year 2? I wouldn’t. He’s already the best defensive player in the NBA, a freak of nature and a top basketball prospect of all time. I guess we’ll find out soon.

Wemby’s going to be the DPOY next year barring injury.

Just imagine Wemby surrounded by Jrue Holiday, Derrick White, Jalen Brown and Al Horford. Its may be the best defense ever assembled.

People seem to focused on offense but the defense is a big part of this.

I’d take Wemby easily over Tatum.

Wemby and I don't have to think about it hard. I expect him to be comfortably better than Tatum, especially with CP3 next to him. I would take last 1/4 of the '24 season Wemby over Tatum, much less next year's version who will be better in every way.

Wemby vs Embiid would be a closer contest for me.
