Three Portland trades involving CHI-DET-LAL-NO
Nothing radicial in any of these deals
Trade 1: Chciago - Lakers - Portland
Chicago trades:
Lonzo Ball
2025 Portland pick returned
Chicago receives:
Rui Hachimura
Chicago gives up a guy who lamentably will never play again and a pick which will probably never convey as a first and gets to kick the tires on Hachimura
LA trades:
Rui Hachimura
Gabe Vincent
2031 1st - top 3 protected
2025 2nd - highest of LAC and LAL
LA receives:
Jerami Grant
Given what different sources say this should be what LA ends up paying for Grant. There is no way they should give up two first or an unprotected first
Portland trades:
Jerami Grant
Portland receives:
2031 1st - top 3 protected from LA
2025 2nd - highest of LAC and LAL
Gabe Vincent
Lonzo Ball - ending contract and cut
Portland picks up a first and ending money for Grant
Trade 2: New Orleans - Portland
New Orleans trades:
CJ McCollum
Yves Missi
Milwaukee 1st - protections top 4 in 2025, swap option with NO in 26 which so New Orleans can choose to convey a pick that year and unprotected in 27
New Orleans needs a center and they get two in this deal who can come in and contribute from day 1 for a guy in McCollum whom they no longer need.
Portland trades:
DeAndre Ayton
Duop Reath
Portland wants to take CJ McCollum back about as much as I want to take a sailing vacation off the coast of Somalia but I love Yves Missi as a prospect and it would be wicked sweet awesome to get another first, even if it is probably in the 20s. I imagine Portland and McCollum can reach amiable terms on a buy-out so CJ can go somewhere else where he is wanted and needed.
Trade 3: Detroit - Portland
Detroit trades:
THJ
Jaden Ivey
2029 Milwaukee 2nd round pick
2030 Minnesota 2nd round pick
Portland trades:
Anfernee Simons
A poster on the Portland board has a source who conveyed information that the Blazers were pursuing Deni is alleging that the Pistons are interesed in Simons. While I don´t know why I guess trading a young and productive player for a probable bust and an older guy makes some sense for the Pistons.
For Portland, THJ has an ending contract and gets bought out. Ivey is the kind of young athlete who needs some nuturing. His learning on the job will help Portland´s tank
Portland´s Roster
PG: Scoot, Ivey, Banton, Vincent
SG: Sharpe, Thybulle, Rupert
SF: Deni, Murray, Minaya
PF: Camara, Walker
C: Williams, Clingan, Missi
Draft pick situation (new in bold)
2025: own (unencumbered), Milwaukee top 4 protected
2026: own (unencumbered)
2027: own (unencumbered)
2028: own (unencumbered) swap option with Mil
2029: own, Boston (unprotected), Milwaukee (unprotected)
2030: own or swap with Milwaukee
2031; own, LAL (top 3 protected)

Agree with these. I don't buy the Ayton to New Orleans notion going around. And while I'm fine selling on Simons, I don't see a place for Ivey in Portland either.

Re: Three Portland trades involving CHI-DET-LAL-NO
I like the detail of the trades here. Good work on that. +1
Trade 1 --
Blazers want a little more back for Grant's contract than a 31 first pretty sure. The Bulls sending Portland's 1st back to them is ...okay? that pick may not convey until 2027. I'd try to get a 2025 pick for Grant from another team.
PS Portland doesn't seem to trade with LA Lakers, which might also be a deal-killer.
Trade 2 --
I am unsure that NOLA would place so much faith in Ayton and be willing to take on that much salary instead of using CJ's space for another player very soon. This locks NOLA into a future of DJMurray/Herb/MurphyIII/Zion/Ayton after BI is off the squad. I'm not sold on Ayton being the C here.
Trade 3 --
I think Simons is worth more than the return, but I do think the target for DET is worthy... But Ivey not so for POR
Overall, the Blazers have loads of dead cap if they perform this trade {might be a record?}. They absolutely gut the front court and put faith on a super-green squad. It would be a rough year, record wise, but is a complete rehaul and sets up for a 2025 draft.
Personally, if I'm Portland, getting the pick back from CHI isn't the biggest deal because it won't convey anyways with a bad squad. I'd want one or two 2025 selections to bolster the immediate rebuild. Let the CHI pick convey after a new youth-movement is truly established.

1. You are correct. The Spotrac tradechecker wasnt working when I was working on this. I imagine adding Christian Wood is an option to get it over the line, or under the dreaded apron in this case
2. Who would trade for CJ? I couldn't come up with anything. It seems like the Pelicans are stuck with McCollum. Besides Jarrett Allen who is out there that New Orelans can trade for at center? If Cleveland wanted Ingram that trade would have already happened.
3. Yeah, not my ideal target either

My opinion may differ from others on the Pistons board but Ivey is not a bust. Super athletic, poorly coached. I’d rather wait and see what Ivey can do this year w a more involved coach.

Re: Three Portland trades involving CHI-DET-LAL-NO
1. Getting Portland's pick back is not urgent but not having the freedom to trade there own pick is a situation that would be nice to rectify. I too would try to get a 25 1st for Grant but at this stage in the off-season that seems highly unlikely.Clav wrote:I like the detail of the trades here. Good work on that. +1

2. McCollum's contract has the same duration as Ayton's. Two more seasons. I figured this was a much better, and more likely option, than something centered around Ingram for Ayton plus.
3. Yeah, I agree. What would you modify?

Simons to Detroit is a no, regardless of the price. His skillset is bad for us and his salary is terrible.

Re: Three Portland trades involving CHI-DET-LAL-NO
Trade #1
Like the idea of CHI as a 3rd team in a POR\LAL deal.
DLO would likely have to be included (going to POR) instead of Vincent, which in adding Ball from CHI is way too much salary for POR liking. I think POR would want to send additional salary back to CHI. Something like Thybulle (maybe CHI adds 1/2 2nd's for) would be preferred I think, or something lighter salary-wise like (2) of Banton\Walker\Reath for (2) 2nd's which would also open up a roster spot for POR.
Not sure value-wise if POR 25' back is enough for sending Rui AND taking on Ball's dead salary, not taking into account additional value of Thybulle or younger players heading back.
TRADE #3, I think the player part of this deal works (THJ + Ivey for Simons) but (2) 2nd's seems light, maybe something like a 25' pick swap? Could be with a Top 1 restriction, both teams will likely be in lottery, chance it would not even convey depending on how the balls bounce, but could insure POR stays in the top 5 at least instead of falling down to #7 like they did this year.
If not a 25' swap then a future protected 1st would seem fair.
Not a fan of trade #2, no reason to trade Ayton this year IMO & gives Clingan some time to develop coming off the bench.

re 1 - I agree, I'm not sure there's a great market for Jerami this season.
2 - Gotcha, thank you for the info. that could be an idea.
3 - ...I'm not sure, maybe Stewart but DET may say no there with Ivey included. DET's pick is locked up for a few years to NYK (protected descending each year). Camara + Simons for Stewart and Ivey ? I don't like that idea after I typed it lol
I agree with the DET poster up a bit that said they'd like to see Ivey with a different coach before trading him too, he could have a big year this year and perception can change quickly.
Cheers

Of course he's not a bust, and this trade offer is horrendous. I mean, laugh out loud horrendous.theBigLip wrote:My opinion may differ from others on the Pistons board but Ivey is not a bust. Super athletic, poorly coached. I’d rather wait and see what Ivey can do this year w a more involved coach.
Ivey just doesn't fit with Cade, and has been poorly coached. 2 players+picks for a grossly overpaid, undersized, no defense chucker?
This trade proposal is going to age like milk, sitting out in the sun.

I suspect Portland is going to stand pat this off season for they will want to see how this roster fits together. Next summer they will know how the pieces fit and perhaps the return will be better when both Ayton and Simons are expiring contracts

Question... Is Shaedon Sharpe a "probable bust" too or just Ivey?

Re: Three Portland trades involving CHI-DET-LAL-NO
It seems like a gift to CHI to have them give back the owed pick which is not looking like it will convey. Rui solves the Bulls starting PF shortage instantly. What I don't get the Lonzo Ball part Is PORT buying him out or waiting on his $21M to expire whether he's healthy or not. Flat out they don't have 2 minutes a game to play him behind their other 8 guards. Add that to buying out CJ man that's a lot of money to send 2 guys away. Let PORT take Jevon Carter and Dalen Terry plus the pile of cash that the Bulls got in the DeRozan trade or something. Or send Ayton to CHI for Vucevic, Carter, Terry and the pick and buy out any of them
I actually think the Bulls are perfectly willing to continue the gamble that Lonzo can play, even in a very part time role and look like he'd be worth bringing back next year.

Not at all. Sharpe is a fine young player.
Played heavy minutes early in the season, got hurt, play deteriorated due to injury until he got surgery and ended his season.

Adding my voice to the chorus of Detroit fans who want nothing to do with an Ivey for Simons trade

Early returns on both worry me.
