Huh? They blew it up last year and picked a direction, how is that consider a "cluster fk"?

an early 10-22 record without any significant injurieS should do it.

The Raptors didn't willfully blow up anything, their hand was forced after having failed to trade for Damian Lillard and failing to resign FVV which they openly admitted was their goal.

Would Lillard-FVV-Anunoby-Barnes-Poeltl w/ no financial flexibility have won a title? I say no.

Don't think it's too hard to understand, it's the real first year going into a new era/season with Scottie/IQ/RJ as the (for now) core 3, which doesn't mean anything real significant long-term, as those pieces are always fungible. I don't think they're married to anyone but Scottie and he's a piece, not THE piece. That's just modern roster building. But that's also why it's year one of a rebuild. We'll experiment, play the draft picks and others like Mitchell/Ochai/etc, see what sort of chemistry forms and hope they hit upon something good. If they overachieve, well, that's not too bad considering it's with a core of young players in their early to mid-20s, and if not, it's a lottery pick.

I know lots of people want Yak gone ASAP but what's the rush? The aim of the season is trying to build up a new (hopefully) winning team culture with at least some of the players here right now and you simply need a good C to do that. We've recently seen what lots of basketball looks like without a capable C to do the dirty work and it's horrible. You're just handicapping yourself. Why would you want to mess up the development of guys like Scottie/IQ/RJ just to chase lotto balls when they're gonna probably be mediocre anyway.

No team aims to bottom out right away. They've already shown this past season that they can tank just fine if they're sitting there in a position mid-season where it makes sense. They can always deal him at the deadline in the next few years to a contender.

Now people will say, why didn't he do that the prior year? And Masai's already answered that a million times before. He's a loyal guy and he wanted to give the OG/Fred/Pascal trio a chance to do something and it didn't work out. What's done is done there but getting hung up on it for two years is unhealthy and that's what some on this board like to do. What's done is done, lessons were learned, please move on.

Did they ever publicize his contract?

I would imagine he makes it through this year. He was brought here to develop guys, so we’ll see how guys like Gradey, IQ and Scottie develop this year, along with some of the new additions.

I think by year 1 of Scottie’s deal, Darkos third year, HO will expect to start winning more games than losing. Not top 2-3 seed or anything but not 500.

Anyhow the organization pissed away the last four years. IQ, Scottie and RJ have given them a chance to get it right.

Bryan Colangelo made a similar comment about “year 1 of the rebuild” even though it was like our 3rd year of losing.

The guy is god awful at coaching and I clearly remember games where he lost it for us by keeping Barnes out in the 4th for too long or not calling timeouts when it was needed.

It was helping the spurs rebuild.

Not really though. They traded for a pick in 2031. It's not helping them rebuild.

rebuild started once Siakam and OG were traded

that was the start of this year in January...so yes you can say we're still in year 1 of the rebuild....2025 will be year 2.

Last year was chaos. Tons of injuries and then you had Darko trying to fit in Scottie & Pascal into being a focal-point of the offense at multiple junctures and it not really working out. OG basically having to be traded because of him being a UFA who would demand so much money and us not being in a position to overpay a player like him, etc. Masai flirting with a will-we-won't-we approach to trading Siakam or entertaining the idea of re-signing him, as well. Siakam playing while knowing his future was clouded.

Full year of roster stability with a clear (& comparatively simple) direction going forward should make it easier on Darko.

OR COACH's getting FIRED.
a very poor and injured Chicago Bulls team managed to do 39-43..."Year 1 of the rebuild" should be 41-41 at worst with our talent

Masai has been trading FRPs for years now trying to get us into the play-in. We might have performed like a rebuilding team, but Masai's intention was never to rebuild. Hell, he was still committed to the play-in until the trade deadlne last season.
