not what's happening. We were told "he'll be a great litmus test to know which people know what they are talking about and which dont right off the bat."

Just pointing out how that person is wrong as HE failed the litmus test spectacularly since "right off the bat" Black is nowhere near the player they predicted

I've never felt a higher conviction that I did with Anthony Black.

This kid is a certified genius at basketball.

And I had him at #2 in his class; I failed pretty hard on Amen, but Black has a good shot of being the #2 in his class still.

I like Anthony Black. He plays my kind of game. Defense, toughness, effort, intensity. Those are things you need in the playoffs.

It is very unlikely he will ever be viewed as a successful draft pick. 4.6 pts, 2 reb, 1.3 ast in 17 minutes. He is better than his stats, but we live in the era of offense and a stats driven world.

Draft picks fall into three categories.

1. Success - we can't wait to pay this guy the max
2. Mid - we like this guy, hope we can keep him, he isn't a max guy but a good player, hopefully another team doesn't decide to overpay
3. Bust - he gone

Anthony Black is never going to be your Jason Tatum or Brown. He is Marcus Smart. His ceiling is mid.

Before you think about taking a victory lap on this guy. Go look at his stats. I like him. He is mid at best.

Mid is fine for the #6 pick. #6 you want to be "solid".

like i said on page one of this thread, he's never going to be an explosive scorer but will be a winning player who will have much higher impact on the W/L column than many players with more eye popping stats, just a beautiful connector piece that every team will wish they had on their roster

As long as you have 4-5 players better than him, then yeah he can be a good player. Feels like an issue for a #6 pick to me, but maybe the Magic figure it out.

Nah, the #6 pick average outcome is between Solid Player and Not brought back. If he is the 4th or 5th best player on a good team, that's a win.

And the most important thing about Black following his rookie season as we can all see the clear blue print for him being very good and impactful. Excellent Defense, Intelligent playmaking, Playing well off of Heliocentric players [Wagner and Banchero] and making open shots.

This is a player who can play meaningful playoff minutes, not get benched for being Josh Okogie on offense or Luke Kennard on defense.

I am talking about in the future with his skill-set. I thought that was obvious, sorry if it wasn't.

The Magic just paid a guy for 3 years that will keep AB on the bench for the rest of his rookie deal.
He might be their 5th guard in mins per game this year.

That's fine, though he has a real shot at dethroning both Cole Anthony and Gary Harris.

He is about to play 15 mins per game and average 6 ppg and there will be people in here trying to reason that he is still some really strong prospect because it fits their pre-draft takes.

I have really liked how he processed the NBA game and how his shot has improved. Nothing to do with my pre-draft assessment.

Yes 61% from the free throw line and a whooping 1.4 three point attempts per game...

I will be shocked if he shoots above 35% from three this year.

Return to NBA Draft
