One shot in a scrimmage is kind of a small sample size.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

He's already shown he can improve aspects of his game - going from a 61% FT shooter as a rookie to 79% as a sophomore. And he admitted in an interview that his multiple ankle injuries last season affected how he was able to play defense and he knew he was better.

Just remember he is a solid 5-8 years from his prime and will continue to get better every year.

100%. At some point last year his defensive metrics were just justly below average which was a big jump from the previous year (his rookie season). So the improvement was there at least early on last season. I think overall the losing streak took a lot out of everyone. This is also going to be his third season with three different defensive schemes and three different coaches.

I would expect by the end of his 4th season he'll be an average defender for a starting center, right around the 14th - 16th range in the league.
I reckon his ankle affected him throughout the season. He looked pretty good before his injury. It was a very small sample size, but he showed some growth

I would actually be more concerned if his ankle bothered him so badly from his injury in that first week or two of the season all the way to the end of the season that it was physically preventing him from playing defense. Feels like a damaged goods situation if an ankle injury really lingered that long. At least if it was an effort and IQ thing I can hope Monty and the overall team vibes being trash had some impact on that and JB will immediately help.

So Ausar looks ripped on tv and Cades trainer, who is also his cousin, mentioned he is huge on Ku’s podcast. Obviously been hitting the gym hard.
Made me think -
For mega valuable assets why are players like Cade trained by their cousin? Is he properly qualified?
Cousin-trainer mentioned Cade had hardly had a break, and was maybe over training. For a guy with a history of stress fractures, which are over-training injuries, is that smart?
