Curious to know what he is working on in the lab this summer...
Also, if he's going to keep the straight backs as a nod to A.I which would be cool cause I'm tired of him shaking the twists out his face when he plays lol

He’s working on mostly midrange and some post moves

Post moves? Who is he posting up? Unless he plan on adding muscle and getting stronger
He need to continue to work on shotcreation and playmaking....

I believe Nurse mentioned that Maxey should expand his game beyond just 3s and lay-ups, which is why we see him practicing mid-range shots and some post moves. Having post moves is essential nowadays, similar to how Brunson incorporates them into his game.

Re: Welcome Tyrese Maxey!
Mid range should definitely be a priority for Maxey. It was a huge weakness last year. If he gets that he'll be unstoppable.

I think he will be fine from midrange, his form and shot are fine and he started to get more comfortable from thère as the season went on. He has to continue to add to his shot creativity and counter dribbles , he still had some trouble separating from larger defenders.

I'm not a professional basketball player, but I believe having a diverse set of mid-range moves is crucial. Semi-post moves can serve as an effective "stop and go" strategy, giving him another opportunity to blow past his defender if they manage to stay with him after the initial dribble move. That's a technique I've seen guys like Jalen Brunson and Kyrie Irving use effectively.

The two guys on this team I have zero worries about going into the season are Drummond and Maxey. You know exactly what you'll get from Drummond, and you know Maxey will take another step forward.

He looks bigger/stronger in the upper body. Should help him absorb contact.

Brunson and Irving are also elite ball handlers that are able to get to any spot on the floor that they want.

Re: Welcome Tyrese Maxey!
Looks good for him to develop into a 3-level player individually.
However, on this team, you have Embid and PG. Those two are among the best in the league at getting a high percentage shot attempt and Embid can draw fouls on top of that.
Maybe if teams are aggressively trapping Embid and the other 76ers are not knocking down 3-pointers well then you might want Maxey to pull up for 10 footer instead of using his explosive downhill game to get a shot at the rim?

Re: Welcome Tyrese Maxey!
My guess is that Maxey is trying to add some bulk to improve his defense. This might reduce some of his quickness, so he's likely developing his post game as as a counter. Overall, this will be beneficial for both him and the team.
Just imagine how good we’ll be if Maxey becomes a much improved defender.

Re: Welcome Tyrese Maxey!
Maxey for comparison sake is about 10% less efficient from 2 and from 3 than Jalen Brunson scoring off the dribble as opposed to off the catch this season. His shooting plummeted when Joel left because he had to do it off the dribble then.
He needs to CONTINUE to improve on his pull up game primarily from both long and mid range.

Re: Welcome Tyrese Maxey!
Brunson is slow and short for a guard he has had to use dribble counters since a pup. Maxey never was a counter dribbles break down player because he was always one of the quicker players on the floor.
He will have to continue to add to his bag so he can get his shot off even after his initial dribble or shot is defended well.

Keep in mind when Brunson was Maxey's 2023/2024 age he was averaging 8 PPG coming off the bench. With Maxey's work ethic I feel like you can be pretty confident that he is going to keep filling out his game.

It will also help to surround him with wings who can actually play. I think George will be a great compliment for him, and may be able to help give better catch and shoot looks.

Re: Welcome Tyrese Maxey!
It doesn't look like post up necessarily but learning to play with his back to the basket off the dribble which I absolutely think will help him with both shot creation and playmaking. This would be huge if he can implement it well.

Re: Welcome Tyrese Maxey!
I'm sure this has been asked before in this thread but I think it could be revisited especially with how dry this board is and the changes that has occurred lately.
So we are entering the dawn of summer and the NBA is still in the middle of their offseason. We signed PG a 2way scoring threat but a little past his prime. Our beloved future Allstar guard Maxey signed an extension and has been in the lab looking to take the next step to greatness. Embiid our elite MVP caliber big man who may be on the decline due to injury , weight and age but just had one of the greatest scoring seasons ever and has just had a great experience in the Olympics winning gold . They were surrounded by notable vets and promising role playing young players. The roster looks solid with potential weaknesses being rebounding and spacing.
We are bigger, more athletic and with better shot making ability with the roster that was put together.
My biggest hope is that Maxey can take another step and become the # 1 option. Embiid falling into #2 and focusing more on his all-around game. PG playing a point forward/3&D role (like Denver/Golden state iggy but with more scoring ability) .
Is this a possibility?

It might! Seems like that will be George's role, otherwise really comes down to what Embiid's mindset is, Maxey will probably defer to him until Embiid tells him otherwise. Does seem inevitable though at some point.
