Re: Around the League
I just read Atlanta has been trying to trade Capela for over a year, who is now an expiring deal. Maybe he'd re-sign with us for a decent deal? He's still a good player. Great defense, 13-10, shoots 70% (probably)

Trajan Langdon has done one good thing, he didn’t pick Cody Williams! Two games and I didn’t notice him at all!

Re: Around the League
Lakers look to be wanting to shed cap space to be able to use their midlevel exception.
I'm completely guessing on the requirements but I see they are 10.8 million over the first apron and 65 million over the cap. I don't see any way they get under the cap so I am assuming that the requirement to use their MLE would be getting under the first apron. (correct me if I am wrong here).
If that is the case they are looking at shedding that 10.8 million.
What if we do:
Pistons get: Gabe Vincent (2 yrs/22 million total; all guaranteed)
LAL 2029 FRP unprotected
I rarely do trade proposals so my valuations could be completely out of whack... Is sin-eating a 2/22 contract the value of an unprotected first (particularly from a Lakers team that is desperate to contend with aging stars)? The 2029 FRP comes with LeBron and likely AD long gone.
Thoughts?
Edit: So now I am confused. It looks like the MLE can be used up to exceeding the 2nd apron threshold. Spotrac says the Lakers are currently under that by 45K. So why is there a story on the RealGM front page saying they are looking to clear cap space for it?

^must not want to go over the 2nd apron so they'd likely deal Russell or Vincent to sign GTJr or whoever they have their eyes on

That or Russel, that pick for Wendell Moore Jr. They clear a little more money and keep Vincent who Davis just spoke highly of. We run Russel as bench piece, they save money and see if Moore is worth keeping (I’m thinking they would try to flip him for someone like Reggie Jackson).
I’m not to bothered by either version honestly. I feel like we need a stopgap point guard on the roster

Re: Around the League
Jazz sign their FA Johnny Juzang to a four year deal cheap... That's the smart play try to lock in some bargain players for the long haul. If he ends up being an end of rotation 9th or 10th man for them for that money they are doing great with that deal. He shot 41.6% from deep for them this year on nearly 4 attempts per game in just 18 MPG.
I feel like the one thing TL has messed up on this summer is not locking in any good value contracts for 3+ years.
Tobias 2 years
Font 2 years
Beasley 1 year
Traded for 1 year of THjr
Overall we've had a ton of cap space this summer but possilby will have nothing to show for it in 24 months. Would be nice to lock in at least one rotation worthly player to a good cheap longer term contract.

Not saying he won’t be amazing, but no one should put stock in summer league

I’ll happily eat my servings of crow on my take on Sheppard, but he was taken before our pick so I don’t understand why you are comparing them. Holland was picked for what he can become, not what he is today

Yeah, I like Holland for where we fell, but man, Sheppard would have been amazing on this team next to Cade. Dude is a weapon. This franchise has such awful luck.

That shot is just so silky smooth. I’m still bearish on his overall defence but wouldn’t surprise me if he was average to slightly above in a season or two. The guy just makes smart plays and seems to have a lot of confidence/poise which as Pistons fans hurt considering how well his skills would fit. Houston have a done such a good drafting guys they have talent for days and will be a force to be reckoned with in a couple of years. With the new cba who knows if they can keep them all though, would love to get me some Eason.

Houston always stumbles into the perfect spot to draft my favorite prospects. Sengun, Cam, Eason, Sheppard. It's pretty damn annoying, really
If only we had their arsenal of draft picks...

I was really high on Sengun and Eason too, whether it’s luck or they just do their homework either way they have done really well to assemble the talent they have. And yeah, being able to trade Harden has really sped up their rebuild efforts haha

Re: Around the League
Clingan, 100%, without hesitation. Rim protection locked up. This also makes one of the two, Duren/Stewart movable as well, opening up trade options.Pharaoh wrote:Who would you have taken at #5 Zeeb?zeebneeb wrote:Shooting translates. Its the one thing you can see.chrbal wrote:

Now, if Clingan was gone, Knecht. With that said, Langdon has gone out, and picked up a bevy of shooters.
What drives me insane, to the point of wondering if maybe its sabotage, why in the HELL, Holland, who is basically a clone of Ausar with better handles was the pick. If Ausar is moved, maybe it makes sense to me.
In any event, the team had two Absolutely clear needs;
Rim protection and shooting.
Langdon had a chance to correct both, and passed on a 7'2 shot-blocking monster. I am now left hoping that Clingan is a bust. He shored up the shooting, but had failed miserably at rim protection. But wait, there's more;
It has become obvious that Langdon, much like Weaver has a player fetish. Unlike Weaver, its not for centers who have washed out, but for 6'7-6'9 wings. So instead of going after a taller shot-blocking presence in free agency, of which there were many available, he signs Reed off of waivers, who is, *drumroll*
6'9
I am happy he is surrounding Cade with real NBA talent, and shooters, but the Center position is really slim, when it could have been fixed, and locked up for a decade+ with Clingan.

absolutely agree with the above statement. Center position has been Pistons' achilles heel for a while now. the defense is a sieve. selecting Clingan hypothetically would've gone a long way to solve this problem. Apparently TL was not convinced that Clingan could do the job and that Holland's upside was greater. time will tell. but Pistons still need a 250 lb 7 footer.
