KJ Martin, Sixers Agree To Two-Year, $16M Deal

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Jul 12, 2024 9:16 pm

KJ Martin and the Philadelphia 76ers have agree to a two-year, $16 million deal.

The Sixers has the ability to exceed the cap to re-sign Martin as they held his Bird rights with a low cap hold.

Damn. I like KJ game, but honestly wasn't sure he was going to last in the NBA. Another son of former NBA player making the big leagues. Got to love it. 2nd round pick too.

Except unlike some (one’s) players kids - KJ Martin earned his NBA ticket on his own merits.

We are in fact aware that Martin is still in the league NOT for his game but solely because a team held bird rights and wanted to turn him into a walking trade exception, right?

Yeah but him being on the Sixers roster had nothing to do with him being Kenyon Martin's kid. KJ's a regular end-of-bench prospect now, he can hang in the NBA for sure in that role but needs to add/refine a few things to become a real rotation guy with a long NBA career. Kenyon Martin Sr didn't pull strings so he was in a position to get lucky with this deal.

That’s your opinion but it’s wrong imo. He’s an nba level player, and could become a good role player in his prime

we can read off his stats and say hes out the league, but the guy has had multiple stretches of nba worthy play on both ends. He was well on his way to being a rotation player, but then the trade really messed him up because he had 0 shot of pt on the clippers and 76ers because of fit. The guy has enough talent and smarts to be a 4 in the nba. I actually think if he was still a rocket, he would have gotten this deal or better anyway.

Exactly. I don’t think most understand why this one done. There was an earlier report that 76ers may have signed him to a 2 yr 40 mil offer for the exact reason.
