2025 NBA Draft Thread, part 1 – Capture the Flagg

Post#1 » by Smart2Nesmith43 » Sat Jul 13, 2024 11:24 am

A safe space to discuss all the 2025 draft prospects from Cooper Flagg to whomever gets picked last.

Celtics picks
First round - own
Second round - the best out of the Washington, Detroit, Golden State and Dallas secound round pick

Early contenders for the #1 pick
Cooper Flagg
Best american prospect in years. Big forward (6'9, 205lbs) with a game changing defensive presence with an offensive package that is catching up very quickly. Already holding his own in scrimmages against Team USA in the lead up to the Olympics. Will pay for Duke this season.

Nolan Traoré
Super skilled point guard with good size (6'3-6'4) and an elite first step. Already cooking pros (25 points, 7 assists againt Euroleague team ASVEL) Dominant in youth competition include a record 45 points in a U18 Euroleague game. Almost made the final cut for Olympics with the French national team. Will play for Saint Quentin in the French league this season.

Also keep on eye on Ace Bailey and Dylan Harper the two Rutgers commit, Hugo Gonzalez (Real Madrid) and VJ Edgecombe (Baylor).

Man did not realize Ace Bailey was going to Rutgers.

At any rate, two potential picks between ~30-40, got to do some damage with that set up.

What are the chances Cooper Flagg falls to 30? Something about him makes me think he might be a good Hauser replacement.

I would trade Jaylen Brown for Cooper Flagg.

In a vacuum I would as well and think most would agree…but for 25/26 and 26/27 anyway I think JB will be the more impactful player.
So for the Cs that trade might close this window but open a fresh window in a couple years.

The dream scenerio would be the Cs win this year and make a draft day 2025 trade Brown for Flagg and the necessary salary ballast.
I don’t think whoever gets the number one pick makes that trade? What do you think?

If he blows an Achilles and loses an eye then maybe.

Johni Broome, Jt Toppin, Alex Karaban, Hunter Salis, Ivan Almansa, Ryan Kalbrenner.
Lots of intriguing guys in that 25-40 range.

I wasn’t going to be the one to suggest it but the thought definitely occurred to me lol. It’s a pretty interesting value question even hypothetically.

The salary aspect makes it a lot more noteworthy of course if they can’t pay the current freight past this year. The guy I liked in some prior iterations of something similar was DeRozan as just a temporary place holder but too old at this point. Other obvious kind of place holder guy is Jerami Grant. As in guys that won’t cost much to acquire but can still play fairly well, just maybe not to the level of their contract.

There's a better chance that the Celtics get Cooper Flagg with a territorial pick after Adam Silver reboots the concept.

The way things are going, somebody is going to pull an Eli Manning. Wembenyama probably would have done it the Spurs didn’t get the pick. A bad team with cap space gets the #1 and Flagg says no… think Charlotte or Detroit. J.Brown for #1 makes sense the way the salary cap is headed.

If there’s any chance he finds that lost eye then it’s still a no.

Let’s think logically.

We are coming off an nba title, might win it again and y’all consorting a scheme to get worse as a team in hopes of one day getting better and winning title…

We are a title team. We got at least one more in us. No chance we do a trade like that. LolZ

Unproven but yet "generational" type of talent who will be ONLY 18 at time of the draft. Or Trade a Prime Tatum, while we are in our Championship window.

I am tempted to start a Poll. If I survive the assassination for even thinking this :D

Just don't start that poll on an open field.

I would trade anyone in the right deal, and Flagg is a target worth pursuing. But the chances of such a deal materializing--particularly involving a team like Boston over the second apron, are about .000001%. So we'll have to enjoy watching Flagg play for someone else, just like we enjoy watching Wembanyama.
