Just think how great that 2nd unit could be with Dilly, Ingles, TSJ, and Reid. Throw anybody in at center. I like Garza if not Kat or Rudy.

I see where you are coming from, I just don’t ever want Dilly and Jingles on the floor together. Much like 2 non shooters, we cannot have to minus defenders. We could have Rudy to help clean it up, but TSJ is better with space to attack, and is not yet a known average or better 3 point shooter. Therefore, not a fan of this lineup. That could change if Dilly plays good defense or TSJ shoots 40% or better from deep. I would rather have Ant for Jingles and Karl for Garza. Dilly/Ant/TSJ/Reid/KAT. 5 out threat with size for rebounding and gives the rookies a chance to bond. I really want them sharing the floor together whenever possible.

Wow, we got so lucky. Not because we took Shannon, but because he was available.

His ceiling is incredibly high for the #27 overall pick. For reference, typically at the #27 pick you don't get an NBA rotation player. You might. But if you look back any amount of years most players drafted in the #25-#30 area don't yield NBA level players.

Shannon, on the other hand, has an incredible skill-set. His defensive ability and understanding on screen navigation is top notch (maybe he watched some Jaden McDaniels film). He is going to be a positive defender out of the gate.

Offensively, he attacks close outs better than anyone I have ever seen in a Timberwolves uniform--ever. His decision making is so quick off the catch and his footwork and body control (think about shifting his weight to explode and get down hill) is tremendous.

I think he will be coming in year 1 as a better player than Nickeil Alexander-Walker. This is incredibly high praise for me, since I thought NAW was very close to Naz Reid in terms of impact/importance last year (albeit different roles).

I don't say this lightly--Shannon could very well be an 8-man rotation player--not Diklingham--and we shouldn't be upset if that is the case.

I doubt Shannon ever becomes a star or anything similar (Jimmy Butler a recent comparison as an older prospect developing from role player to star). That doesn't mean we shouldn't appreciate what Shannon can and will be for us.

We got Jaden at 28. Memphis got Bane at 30. Joker was a 2nd round pick. Crazy league/sport where that can happen as often as it does (while still being relatively rare.)

TSJ is unlikely to be better than NAW in year 1, because NAW has more experience with the pace and physicality of the NBA. All rookies need to adjust. Not to mention NAW has a year+ of playing with this group, TSJ does not. The big question is whether TSJ in year 2 makes NAW expendable? If he does, then maybe you extend NAW at a reasonable number and trade him at the mid season next year.

Dilly/Ingles/TSJ/Reid/Garza…

That’s asking a lot of Shannon to cover all 5 positions on defense…

I guess one of Towns or Edwards will be on the floor with bench unit, and one of Conley/Ingles (or both) will be on the floor with Gobert.

I thought that too… last year. Then Finch kept putting them on the bench together and running lineups with Kyle/Naz/Rudy and 2 more. Sometimes those lineups cost us easy wins (Spurs game.)

I am fine with a lot of potential lineups. All I ask is that we not have two non shooters or two non defenders on the floor at the same time when it can be avoided. Obviously injury and foul trouble will make **** happen. But when everyone is available, no Dilly/Jingles pairings, and no non shooters (hard to know who that will be at this point,) with Rudy.

 I like the obvious comment but you might be surprised. Defense is a collective, collaborative process. Plus they will most likely be playing against the other 2nd unit. When you have that much offensive firepower as we do all you have to be is adequate on the defensive end.

Yeah, sometimes Finch was too creative with lineups, but Kyle was our best PG option of the bench, he also was Finch best option when McDaniels got quick fouls, or our defense wanted change of scenario, or no one could break opponent zone defense. I can see why Finch put him on the floor even when Kyle was clearly struggling.

Just saw a video of Terrence watching his dunk from Friday. Gets all stank face:

"I owed something to Baylor too. He (Yves Missi) went to Baylor. They knocked us out when I was at Texas Tech".

Dudes keeping 3 year old receipts from the school before the school we drafted him from. Ya love to see it.
From a fundamental standpoint it is better for a man to have nothing but be under the protection of Jesus Christ than for him to have everything he could ever want yet be completely without.

This is an ideal answer that increases his chance of being a rotational player (assuming he plays at a high enough level).

I haven’t seen enough of him shooting from the corners. It will be interesting to see how effective he is in the NBA from the corners.

It is not necessary shooting from corners. I'd say attacking from corners after running to empty corners and stretching the floor. And TSJ has done plenty of these actions in SL:

- he consistently attacking opponent closeouts hitting baseline jumper and floaters

- he consistently attacking opponent closeouts hitting layups and dunks

- he is shooting open threes from corners, and using jab step to create 3pt shot

But the best example of his skillet and mentality was one episode during last game vs IND: TSJ had a hustle play in defense (I don't remember whether it was rebound or block), he was last line in defense, and right after it in live ball situation, he sprinted the court all 92ft and got himself open in corner. That was high IQ move.

The most painful thing for me as a Wolves fan last year was watching any of our players break down the defense, kick it to the corner, and having Kyle refuse to shoot it. TSJ has impressed the hell out of me so far. He is showing good defensive instincts, a willingness to fight for boards, a talent for attacking the rim, the ability to draw fouls, and more. But, the one thing I think we all need to see, is an ability to do what Kyle could/would not, hit the corner 3. He will be in late clock situations or in straight up packed paint situations, and he needs to be able to catch and shoot. If he cannot, he cannot play with Rudy because they will play off of him, just like Kyle.

He also made a few very quick, decisive passes. A very underrated thing, because we used to see slow thinking / decision making from young players and/or Towns.

P.S. Also Shannon had a very good alleyoop pass to Jesse Edwards, who blew up dunk. But man, I can see Shannon throwing those passes to Gobert.

Our roster by design was not able to fully take advantage of corner threes:

- Towns is not shooting corners threes, but it is kind of by design: he cant run in transition and fill open corner like many natural stretch four forwards do. Towns is slow by comboforwards standards and his sweet spots are on top of the three point arc and above the break. Towns just feels uncomfortable with such big feets in corner, he needs more space
- McDaniels has been inconsistent 3pt shooter
- Anderson, Morris and McLaughlin did not offer much as corner 3pt shooters for many reasons. I mean even if Morris has good touch, he was injured, McLaughlin lacks size it means that he shoots only wide open threes
- Reid is also not a natural corner three point shooter, but he at least is mobile and has size

In other words, to maximise effect from three point shot from corners you need to have mobile, decent sized shooters who are willing to fill these spots, because it kind accelerate offensive flow, stretches the floor. TSJ fits this role perfectly.

Watching TSJ extensively in college, and now in SL, he consistently puts pressure on the defense with his physicality and athleticism.

He gets to the rim, finishes at a very high level, draws fouls and makes his free throws. TSJ is going to be a very productive player for us as soon as this season.
