Charlotte Hornets fans: What do you guys expect from the franchise?

Post#1 » by Tracymcgoaty » Mon Jul 15, 2024 1:22 am

What would we classify the Charlotte hornets current predicament in the NBA right now? A team stuck in no mans land?

Can a team like the Charlotte Hornets build a contending team? If so why hasn't any type of strides been done to get closer to that goal?

Is it because of the location where stars wanting to make their mark and name commercially know they wont maximize it being there?

I am seriously curious as to why a team like the Hornets haven't constructed a good team by now. What is going on in that franchise?

Im sorry hornets fans i dont mean this in a mean spirited way but more curious.

And this applies to teams like Detroit and Washington as well. What is going on behind closed doors? Why has there not been any type of progress?

Is it the owners not really giving a crap but wanting to minimize costs and maximize profits?

Michael Jordan and terrible management.

I feel they are close to a Play-In team. They were competitive without LaMelo or Mark Williams and the team is built around LaMelo. Williams shores up some of Miles Bridges' defensive lapses and another year for Brandon Miller will do him wonders.

MJ sold the team and we have new management. New coaching staff (Charles Lee), new President (Jeff Peterson) etc. This is an entirely new Hornets team from the past decade +

So far, they've done well.

Had a very good trade deadline ( 2 1sts, Grant Williams, Micic, Mann for Gordon Hayward, Rozier and PJ)
Made some good moves this offseason ( Josh Green for free, a few 2nd round picks, Salaun has upside)
Hired Kemba as assistant coach (Good PR move at worst).
Kept Miles on a reasonable contract.

We have no bad contracts, besides our upcoming 1st (lottery protected this season, then 2nds) we have all our own draft picks too.

We aren't really stuck in no mans land, we're a Pacers/Orlando level team on paper. We have a young team with 2-3 potential stars. Melo/Miller being All-NBA potential and Miles/Mark being fringe All-Star potential/ability.

Our issues are all health. Of Melo and Mark specifically. Melo's ankles, and Marks back to be even more specific. This could derail us again. Mark has had back issues for 7 months, so that isn't looking good to say the least.

Winning culture is established by hardworking competent people from executives down to coaches, scouts and trainers.
meticulous dScouts find those young prospects who are willing to spend countless hours working with competent trainers. Coaches study a ton of game tapes to find the best schemes that will fit their players perfectly. Now, do teams like Charlotte, Wizards, Pistons have this kind of personnel?

Shout out the OP for showing us little ole Hornets fans some love. We finally made the big leagues Boyz!

As far as your question we simply don't know because our success depends on the health of LaMelo Ball and Mark Williams. If healthy we have the talent to make the playoffs. That may sound crazy until you realize just how important your starting PG and Center is to our lineup. You put those two with Bridges and Miller and you have 4 legit players with all-star potential. Don't believe me check the stats of Miles Bridges and a healthy Melo. Those guys have been borderline all-star caliber for years. Melo is a easy all-star if he stays healthy. Mark is a double double threat in the East that's enough to get consideration and we obviously know Miller has that potential.

Saying that I think most think we should tank for one more season. If we make the playoffs we lose our draft pick in this upcoming draft. So it is what it is.

I really think this team would be decent if Ball and Williams could stay on the floor. But it's damn near impossible when two of your four best players miss extremely large chunks of the season every year.

Charlotte has been one of the worst drafting teams since they came back as the Bobcats, but they have actually done pretty well with Miller, Williams, Bridges and Ball. Maybe the best drafting run they've had.

Small market teams also need luck. Charlotte just missed out on the picks that became Dwight Howard, Anthony Davis and Victor Wembanyama. If they landed one of those guys things could have been a lot different. They're no different than Orlando or Denver, just didn't get super lucky by drafting an elite talent.

For once, I think they are on the right track. Jordan bouncing really helped, they seem to care about the draft finally. I like the new coaching staff they brought in. I know counting on Ball to stay healthy is too much to ask for at this point, but one healthy season from him and I think this team could push for 35-40 wins.

As frustrating as the past is, it’s basically a brand new franchise at this point, new owner new GM new coach, new gm has been fairly active and they took a home run swing at pick 6 so fair to say they aren’t necessarily trying to cut corners yet. Trashing them for the sins of the previous regime would be irrational but that’s obviously never stopped anyone on realgm

Honestly they are probably in the best position theyve been in years. Melo and miller are two intriguing young guys who have really yet to play with each other. They have what looks to be both a young & solid center rotation. Bridges is polarizing but he gives them another volume scoring option. As a casual, they seem watchable which is great.

The new coach looks good. Looks likes players are buying in, they are 4-0 in the summer league and playing hard. It's up to LaMelo buying in, I think they have as much talent as Orlando but Orlando was healthy and cohesive as a unit

I would rather be the Hornets than the Bulls right now and ironically they both could use healthier Balls.

Trade LaMelo and Bridges and give the keys to Brandon Miller. Just my opinion, but I think he could be something, but those other two, I don't believe in them at all.

The most important thing for them is hoping LaMelo stays healthy.

I think Brandon Miller is gonna be really good in 2 seasons. The game grew for him as the season went. Haven't heard much about his summer but I'm very curious to see what he worked on. If he's able to add some sort of ability to get to the line in meaningful way the foundation is good and he's the flow to him.

I hope it works out because it would fun to watch.

You're in for a surprise the next few years.

They are under new management, made lots of changes at the top.

Plus talented young players, need to stay healthy.
