He's not the uber switchable center we all hope for but Jay Huff is deserving of an NBA spot and I would give him it.

I dunno who this is, but I endorse anything that gets me a look at a new big next to Giannis.

He's not the nimblest of dudes but he's plenty athletic, good shotblocker/rebounder, dominates the G-League, potential as a shooter (especially for a big). Been on a bunch of two-ways, he's gotta get a shot.

Love it. Kinda looks like a rec league player and should be bald in a couple years which will add to it. Sign him up and get him some sweat bands and knee pads.

Huff is pretty fluid for a 7’1 guy. I liked him last offseason after Washington.

Obviously not sure about it, and he is older, but I could see a mini Hartenstein style breakout in the right situation. I’d be happy if we offered him a contract.

I keep coming back to how the easiest way to make the team more athletic and versatile is Giannis to play more 5.

Like Doc told Bill Simmons — Dame brings up the ball unless Giannis is running the break.

Let Khris cook in the half court instead of Giannis relying on Russell Westbrooking his way into the paint. And get a switchable forward for Khris to pair with, maybe just Prince. I suspect Middleton would do better guarding plenty of 4’s vs 3’s too,

Giannis focuses on DPOY and leading the league in rebounds.

I have posted this a few times. Perhaps Doc wasn’t hired because he was a top 5 tactician, but rather because he has the pull to make something like this happen. Phil Jackson wasn’t a top 10 tactician for example, but got guys to play together. Perhaps he can keep everyone reasonable happy, then get to exactly what you posted come playoff time.

Playing with the SpoTrac trade machine and caught an option to trade Bobby into Sacramento’s NTMLE and get a pick (2027 unprotected first let’s say) and our own trade exception in return.

It’s new that this kind of maneuver is possible.

That cap flexibility and trade exception might be more valuable to us than Lyles or Huerter.

Starting with in 2024-25, teams will be able to use their Non-Taxpayer Mid-Level Salary Exception (NTMLE), Mid-Level Salary Exception for Room Teams (RMLE) and Bi-annual Exception (BAE) as if they were trade exceptions, provided they are under the first apron.

"Bucks are in the market to sign a shooting guard and are expected to conduct a workout this week in Las Vegas... Will Barton will be among the players working out for the Bucks."

"Milwaukee is also among several contenders pursuing the top free agent remaining, Gary Trent Jr."

He could drain the three in college and was always a good pick and roll guy.

I love the idea of Giannis playing at the 5, but that’s maybe a year too early. Maybe next season if Horst manages to bring back both Bobby and Brook in 10ish contracts.

Midds (12)/Bobby (24)/Giannis (12)
Giannis (24)/Brook (24)

I would start building the 2025 team with that in mind for the PF and C positions. Bobby/Brook combo looked OK in an NBA playoff series against Indiana, imagine how it would look if that’s the combo you have against second units. Giannis at 5 should finally become a thing in his 30s, Midds is also more a 3/4 these days and will be better off not chasing younger guards. Dame of course benefits too with more ball in his hands.

I wouldn’t hesitate going this route even now moving Brook’s 23 mil salary to the bench. The problem is that this team already lucks a starter and in that case you will be looking for two. Maybe that can be a thing during the season if one of AJJ/Marjon/Green etc evolves miraculously into starting NBA player material.

Well, the glimmer of hope remains for the time being:

But if he's not willing to take the minimum, I don't know how this works.

Ship AJax out to a team who will send some future hypothetical seconds to clear a roster spot to add Trent if he’s actually willing to sign for the minimum.

Ajax isnt a rotation player.

Agreed in that I hope Doc can get through to Giannis. Communication is his strength.

That said, Doc was hired because he is the consulate elder statesman and politician, who has a good track record. He was perhaps the only guy that could have been brought in to replace Adrian Griffin so soon into year one, without incurring blowback and negative publicity for the owners.

Trent is fine on the minimum but I think he is holding out hope some team does something dumb to clear their tpmle or he would’ve signed already

I think the Spurs have 7.9 mil to spend, but Trent would be fighting with Vassell, Barnes, Keldon Johnson for time.

I don't have any existing Gary Trent Jr. agendas but apart from being good value on a minimum, would he be a markedly better fit for this team than Malik Beasley? I think of them as being in a similar tier. Is he a better defender?
