Raptors and Kings Once More

Post#1 » by Saul Goodman » Sun Jul 14, 2024 8:45 pm

To SAC
Bruce Brown
2026 2nd

To Toronto
Kevin Huerter
Portland 2025 2nd
2026 top 15 protected 1st (becomes 2nds after 2030)

The Raptors get some more value from the pascal trade. the portland pick will be no less than 35th. Huerter can refind his game in Toronto and be flipped later

the Kings shed a year from Huerter, and upgrade their roster to get back to the playoffs.

Fox/Ellis/DeRozan/Murray/Sabonis with Brown/Monk/Mclaughlin off the bench is solid.

That Portland 2nd is likely to be 31-35. Asking for a first on top of it is likely an automatic no. It's not like Huerter is a bad contract. Brown makes more than Huerter and the Kings just traded for DDR. I'm not sure the Kings do it without the picks tbh.

I don't get the value here or assessment of Brown/Huerter.

I don't think Kings need to spend assets on ANOTHER guard. Expiring one, at that. I don't think they entertain this proposal.

Maybe Huerter to Charlotte for Cody Martin or something like that. Not gonna guess on picks. Kings save money, Charlotte adds depth

I think the Brown - Sacramento pairing has sailed, since they drafted a guard, signed Demar, and resigned Monk.

They need a SF-PF defender.

Bingo. Brown wouldn’t be a target for SAC anymore. We need to target a PF/SF (not a SF/PF) like Dorian Finney-Smith.

Having said that, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Kings don’t make another significant move before the season and they use this season to raise Huerter’s value back up since he’ll be back from his injury and 100% again. Carter will also be out the 1st half of the season so there is an opportunity for Huerter to land a 26-28 mpg role as a backup SG/SF. Then we could flip him around the trade deadline for that PF/SF and have Carter pickup the backup guard minutes.

Can’t imagine Sacramento would pay a first like this to dive deep into the tax on an arguably lesser player.

But the bigger issue is that Sacramento only has 13 players signed, and this deal would put them only $800k or so under the first apron, where they’re currently hard capped, but short one roster spot, so they’d essentially not be able to do this deal as is because of the hard cap at the apron.

This wouldn’t have been a viable deal BEFORE re-signing Monk and adding DDR. There is no realm where TOR gets a high second in a great draft and also a first for Bruce Brown - expiring or not.

Sac can’t trade 26 first.
Kings don’t need Brown.

I'd still take Brown, but my offer is simple. Huerter for Brown straight up. Toronto gets the better shooter, who is younger and has a year to rehab his value. Kings take the extra cost up front for the better defender/vet.

Didn't the Raps get the Portland 2025 in the last trade?
