Who fits better next to Paolo? Does Paolo need another slasher next to him that primarily wants to take the defender off the dribble to the cup, or does he need a smart player that understands spacing and relocating to the open spot for a wide open jumper? I should hope we are looking at the most effective player to put next to Paolo.
As of right now, Franz is still better than Paolo.

Hot take, Franz is better than Paolo?? Is that what you’re saying ?
Currently, he is, but Paolo had the better last game. I'm not sure if there's any advanced stat that says Paolo is better than Franz.

Paolo gets a crazy amount of attention on him. If Franz three point shot was 35% he'd be better because of his defense, but there's a lot that Paolo does that goes beyond nerdy advanced stat stuff.

The biggest loser from this summer league is definitely Caleb Houstan.

I would get Steve Nash on the phone, offer him a coaching job, and leave him in a gym with AB and Suggs for the rest of the summer.

There are a bunch of decent future roles or outcomes for him, any of which could happen. He has time to try being one thing and then pivot to being another.

But the idea hes going to be excellent at any one single archetype this year, to the point that he should start now by default (or be prioritised over a lead guard who could really drive this team) is crazy talk to me.

He was pick 6th. It’s not crazy talk.

What does being the 6th pick have to do with what position he plays and when hes ready to play it as a starter?

Oh, I see. 6th picks should start otherwise they shouldnt have been picked 6th? Well, if you ask me, thats a pretty backwards way of looking at it. Your right to start as a rookie on a tanking team isnt really earned - its given to you, because the priority is to lose and youll probably be very helpful in that respect. In parallel, you learn stuff - hopefully more winning habits than losing habits.

On a winning team, starting is a privilege and not a right for everyone. If it turns out Black is a better starting Guard than Suggs/KCP for what he brings, then problem solved.

But its more likely than not he isn't better. So he has to earn his minutes. And because he isnt playing lights out as a lead guard even at SL level, those minutes might not come as an on-ball initiator.

But, thats ok right? Whats important is he develops. Because hes a polivalent kind of kid, he has more dice to roll than the average kid. And yes, being the 6th pick earns him patience and maybe some favouritism. But not a divine right.

Exceptional posts! This was poetry to read, really well put.

Same thing with Suggs

Not saying having a veteran pure point guard would turn them instantly into Chris Paul lite, but it'd most definitely help

We should look for that kinda mentor with our 15th spot on the roster

Let's keep it apples to apples. Compare Silva's summer league performance to 23 year old Franz's summer league performance.

Which of these three players do you expect to have the most positive impact THIS season?

Anthony Black, Jett Howard or Tristan da Silva?

I remember Ivey last season in his second summer league went 5-19 with 4 assists and 6 turnovers against us. Cole was horrible in his second summer league. ABs game yesterday doesn't really mean anything.

Da Silva because he's a much more mature player. He already knows his limitations and plays within himself. I think he'll be Franz ' backup.

Anthony Black. Defense will get him reps.

Edit: I do agree that TDS will spot Franz in the rotation.

Let us send AB and Jett to the SL in 3 years and see if they measure up to TDS!

Haha.... I know right. The plus about TDS possibly doing everything we wish he could starting in year one.... Is that we have him for 4 years before having to pay for the second contract. We've got possibly one of the deepest teams at this rate. Praying that it becomes one of our weapons

Black is the easy answer. But if Anthony plays major backup PG minutes, I think the correct answer will be da Silva. There are more bench SF minutes, in my opinion, than backup guard minutes.

And da Silva should get some (limited) PF reps when Isaac is in load-management benchings.

Short of a major injury to a SG, I project Howad as being irrelevant to the 2024/25 roster.

There are pathways for both Black + TSD to have meaningful impact. In terms of most positive? Let's be real about a couple things.

- Suggs plays hard and can get injured, this opens Black up to potentially be the starter.
- Harris & Cole Anthony have tendencies to be injured, which leaves Black plenty of reps.
- Franz / Paolo will inevitably need to be sat or Isaac on load management. TSD is going to have plenty of minutes.

The question becomes, based on last year. We saw that Black had the "most" positive impact because at that phase in the season it didn't feel like we lost anything and gained the occasional 3-ball over Fultz. I expect Black to play similar to KCP in the sense that he can default to 3&D.

TSD. Well. The world is his oyster, and we will know fairly quickly I think whether or not the rookie is that bench role player we are hoping for. In all fairness, that is what I am hoping for. A playable version of Okeke. (Sorry Okeke, you are a great basketball player.)

TLDR. I would vote Black, but its TSDs award to lose.
